Famous Thread nominations!
As the thread title says, folks. If you think there are some threads which are particularly noteworthy, going right back to the origin of the board 5 years ago, then nominate them here.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.
But now, you shall witnesss ... its dismemberment!

Baghdad Tiger. If there's no other thread worthy of it, that one is.
The Pope John Paul death threads might also qualify.

Could you define "Famous" (As in good, interesting, well known, notorious...)?
The Darkstar threads are certainly very IN-Famous, for example, as would some of the more amusing Parting shots threads (Ah, Jake and his gospel)...
The Great Mess Prank of 2k7 definitely needs to be here, along with 1-2 of the threads that foreshadowed it (The "general Pace hates homosexuals" one mayhap?).
"Waits for Ace, History board members to attack in 3.2.1 "

"Famous" would simply mean any thread you either want to reference in future debates or which we think is just so funny or cool that we want to make sure it's always prominent and easily located.

"Viagra commercials appear to save lives" - tharkûn on US health care.

Are those to be limited to N&P, or are threads from all forums eligible?Darth Wong wrote:"Famous" would simply mean any thread you either want to reference in future debates or which we think is just so funny or cool that we want to make sure it's always prominent and easily located.

It was before my time, but was there an original, single thread devoted to the unfolding attack on 9/11 as it happened? That would certainly be worth examining.

My mistake. The Madrid bombings thread also might be worth preserving.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Katrina thread, too.CaptainChewbacca wrote:It was before my time, but was there an original, single thread devoted to the unfolding attack on 9/11 as it happened? That would certainly be worth examining.
Oh wait, the forum was founded in 2k2. 9/11 was 2k1.

Space MinesDave (Fri Mar 12, 2004 9:10 pm -- Tue Mar 16, 2004 6:33 pm)
A newbie (Dave) poses an interesting question about the usefulness of space mines. The general consensus is that they are pretty much useless as a defensive weapon in most cases, given the vastness of space.

A thread by Pint0 Xtreme about health care. One of the more amusing parts of it is where acording to Tharkun, Viagra commercials help save lives.

I'd nominate the SDnet goes to Middle Earth thread. Fun, light, imaginative in a geeky way, with some gold in it.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Isn't that a bit egotistical.Superman wrote:Might I nominate the infamous Pink Foam thread?

I know I haven't been around very long, but if it's not too forward I'd like to nominate the "Godzilla versus his weight in chimps" thread, and/or the "Bowser vs Saruman" thread (in the funny category, of course).

This. Something about it just screamed to me what makes this forum so wonderful: an aura of deathly seriousness about being transported to middle earth with nuclear weapons.Knife wrote:I'd nominate the SDnet goes to Middle Earth thread. Fun, light, imaginative in a geeky way, with some gold in it.
I don't remember who it was, but a couple of people in the thread nominated it to be "the greatest thread of all time."
