Fuck Air America!

Post by Elfdart »

Randi Rhodes, the only host on that network to actually bring in ratings, has been shitcanned for calling Hillary Clinton a "whore" and refusing to apologize for it. The network, run by Clinton's henchmen, claims that Rhodes "quit" and is thus trying to weasel out of paying her the money they owe her. Over at the Huffington Post, Clinton's goons (including AA chief Mark Green) are already claiming Rhodes quit. This is par for the course, since from the time she left WJNO for Air America, they've fleeced her (and other employees) time and time again. They still owe Mike Malloy over $100,000 in back pay.

What's really funny is the way the network, as well as the "unnamed source" used in the Huffington Post story use the exact same words.
Unnamed Source wrote:A source at Air America, who asked to remain anonymous, said, "Many people screw up and then apologize and move on. Like Imus. Like David Shuster. Like Jay Rockefeller on McCain. Like Obama on Rezko. Like Hillary on Bosnia. Randi Rhodes refused to apologize for her obscene comments and has chosen instead to terminate her relationship with Air America."
and from the press release of Charlie Kireker and Mark Green of AA radio:
Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.

Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company. We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America.
Nice try, assholes. By the way, you schmucks should be thanful for her previous services -you didn't pay for them!
:wanker:

I hope she gets the money they're trying to steal from her and she lands on her feet with a real radio network. If not, at least she can take comfort from the fact that unlike her paychecks from Air America, unemployment checks don't bounce.

Bah. Give me Sam Seder and the old Majority Report any day of the week. Rhodes is Air America's version of Ann Coulter with the worst fucking voice ever. It's idiotic that they're trying to stiff her out of her money, but they have every right to fire her if they think her private behavior is going to negatively affect the company. Again, though if they're trying to pretend that she quit when they really fired her, that sucks.

Seder is taking over her time slot, so you're getting your wish.

My problem with this is that they're canning her for something she said off the air, not for saying it over the air.
And it's not about the language, it's about the Clintons.
Rhodes has used vulgar language and called people names before, but AA didn't say a word about it.

While I like Seder, IMHO Randi was more entertaining.

It might not be a classy thing to do, but if it's stipulated in her contract, they're allowed to can her if they feel that what she said in private hurts the reputation and the revenue of the company. Radio personalities and the like can be thought of as representing their companies in public at all times- thus, if they think a bunch of Hillary supporters will start boycotting their station because of her, they are entitled to fire her.

I think Richard Belzer is taking over her slot, actually. I never actually watched Law and Order, but I loved his conspiracy book.

Seder was saying today that it's now his timeslot, but he could have just been talking about this week and I could have misunderstood.

Wow. I thought Air America was struggling to stay alive as-is - at least, that's what I remember hearing some time ago. And now they've gone and canned the one radio host (that I've heard on Air America, at least) that actually does the "righteous indignation" shtick as good as or better than her right-wing counterparts?

Wow. Someone check Mark Green's shoes; I think you'll find bullet holes in them.

It's also a struggling left wing/liberal/progressive/whatever talk-radio network.

I tried listening to Air America, but it wasn't much better that right-wing talk radio.

Now I stick with Democracy Now, and NPR.

My guess (I haven't heard a clip from the appearance) is she said it because in her opinion HRC has sold out the values and people she claims to represent for political advantage.
She's said similar things on her show for the last couple of months.

Ironically, a fiscal conservative will say (and be totally correct) the exact same thing about GWB.

That's possible, but keep in mind that she and Stephanie Miller call each other "whore" and "bitch" all the time (there's YouTube of it). It's shtick -nothing more. Rhodes was on Larry King earlier and said the new management wanted to "restructure" her contract. She said no and they were obviously groping for an excuse to can her.

Anyway, she'll be back on the air next Monday as Nova M and Clear Channel grabbed her immediately.

The buzz on the Intarweb was all about the Clinton/Green angle, but yeah, her contract terms could have been the real motivation and the 'whore' bit the excuse.

That said, unless XM Radio drops AA and picks up another progressive network, I'll be listening to Belzer on the way to work.

Here in southern Bumfuck, Indiana, all of the talk radio stations either play Hannity in that timeslot or are Christian stations.

I'm no liberal, but I prefer a good opposition view to the amen chorus of Limbaugh and Hannity.

Its also because feminism is a one way street. Play with the boys, but keep all the sanctimonious "women are hallowed" crap too. One thing I appreciate about this place is it doesn't stand for homophobic or racist bullshit, but Ann Coulter and Karen Traviss are still worthless cunts.
