Huckabee 'Jokes' about Shooting Obama

Post by Einhander Sn0m4n »

THIS IS CNN: Huckabee jokes about Obama ducking a gunman

With video!
(CNN) – During a speech before the National Rifle Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee — who has endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain — joked that an unexpected offstage noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he's getting ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

Obama supports extending the assault weapons ban, limits on gun sales, and a national law against carrying concealed weapons, with exceptions for retired police and military personnel. John McCain – whose legislative record was awarded a C+ rating by the NRA in 2004, but has received a perfect score – will address the group later Friday afternoon. His speech will include remarks "on the issue of unconditional negotiation with state sponsors of terror" that aides tell CNN’s Dana Bash are a direct response to Obama’s comments earlier Friday.

UPDATE, 8:28 PM: Huckabee released the following statement regarding his comments Friday, according to the New York Times website:
During my speech at the N.R.A., a loud noise backstage, that sounded like a chair falling, distracted the crowd and interrupted my speech. I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama. I apologize that my comments were offensive. That was never my intention
Well this is fucking wonderful. Piss off the Obamans and simultaneously make gun owners look bad. You ASS! :finger:

This kind of stoopid-ass shit is why I dumped my NRA membership.

Well, that plus their stoopid-ass policy shit.

Ah, I prefer the Gun Owners of America anyway. They're far more rational about such things.

The article is talking about a noise backstage or something that Obama reacted to, and Huckabee made a retardedly tasteless crack about it.

Aren't jokes like that the sort of thing that earn you a mandatory chat with the Secret Service?

I get that, but it sounds like a setup that's missing a punchline.

Do Republicans not duck when someone points a gun at them? You'd think Cheney's hunting incident would have been educational for some of them.

I suspect in Huckabee's reality, "real" men aren't afraid of guns being pointed at them, and anyone who ducks isn't a "real" man. Knowing Republican stances on issues like gun control I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were the case.

About the only thing that can stop Obama now is a Lone Crazed Gunman.

Or maybe if he lets Bob Shrum run his campaign.

Hucksterbee is nothing but a fundie two-bit redneck peckerwood, and this isn't the only time he's joked about shooting Democrats. What an asshole.

So did Bill Maher in an off side way. He said that the current administration's pulling ALL secret service from O'Bama just before the Texas Primary was asking for a repeat of JFK, and Dr. King all rolled into one...

I heard on the radio this morning that Huckabee recognized his comments were tasteless and apologized. At least he has some class -- or perhaps he just recognizes a backlash when he sees it coming.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

The intended "joke" fails on two levels: He was trying to be funny with a) The implication that Obama was present at the NRA event, which he was of course probably not and b) The implication that if Obama were present, he would be in physical danger because of his views on guns, which he would of course probably not be.

You are correct, he is not in danger because of his stance on gun control. But I counter, he's sure as fuck in danger because of his skin color.

Or do you think that SOMEHOW in Kentucky, at an NRA meeting in the middle of Hicksburg-Mc-bumblefuck that there was not one KKK member in the group of gun owners? Please, I saw the crowd shots, I have family in the area. I can bet I could have found at least one local Wizard in there somewhere. If not at least a half-dozen card carrying members.

I'm sure that for those half-dozen the third level to the joke was a spectacular success, but I doubt that Hucksterbee intended it as more than an easy and plausibly-deniable bonus to the main thrust of his comment considering the context.

I content, the Huckster is a bigoted, evangelic homophobic nut job who should not be trusted with a dull butter knife let alone one heart beat away from the Presidency as McCain's number two(And lets be honest, that last Heart-beat is likely to happen were McCain to win)

Huckabee's past is filled with a variety of statements which when combined togther expose him for what he is. A true to heart Southern Baptist minster who hates the brown people and is afraid of gay people.

*Edit, See Huckabee's statements on how AIDS patients must be "quarantined" See Huckabee on Gay(Hint your an abomination), his campaign in 1992 and 2008, and the statements he's made as Reverend Huckabee. Most people forget that's was his old job as a Southern Baptist at Immanuel Baptist Church in an all white church in Kentucky.

Did I say that he wasn't? That apparantly still doesn't make him politically-suicidal enough to joke about "shootin' niggers" in a public forum outside of the distantly-tertiary aspect of a triple-entendre.

No I agreed with you, then expanded on the origional point, IE why someone in Kentucky at an NRA meeting WOULD be pointing a gun at him.

I agree with you, the person with the gun would not be thinking, "Hey there's a gun-control advocate, get em!"
