Why must I continuously be lectured about the heritage of America by people who are descended from and continuously laud the group which instigated and prosecuted an illegal rebellion against the state in order to uphold owning people who did all the hard work for them. I don't need to tell you that Confederacy Worship is apparently "okay" in parts of this country, but I still find it somewhat bizarre (coming from Pennsylvania, as I do). "Heritage" is the excuse, mostly. Oh yes, we are proud of our heritage.

But then we have examples where it's just blatant. Mississippi state flag, for one. The shameless United Daughters of the Confederacy, another organization that loves to remind everyone of who they are, with the endless fawning over of a reprehensible past.

PS. Every time someone cites the word "heritage" in the context of politics, he's probably a racist. Heritage is, by definition, that which is inherited. This means we're talking about blood-lines rather than meritocracy: at the end of the day, "proud heritage" is just a clever way of saying "I had the right ancestors, and you didn't."

Clearly it is a not-so-veiled reference to the slave-holding America we all love and are ready to fight for. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be irony. The phrase does look like it has a darker and far more sinister undertone.

This wankers always get really testy if you say that heritage is an economy and culture built on the hard work stolen from others, or just mention slavery. The South isn't about racism and slavery, really. We swear.
