QLD police say that Haneef should never have been arrested.

Could this case be any more fucked?

Really? Seriously? Why haven't Mick Keelty and Phillip Ruddock been dragged in front of a fucking Royal Commission, or better yet an actual Jury yet?

The Queensland Police Service says it told Australia Federal Police (AFP) officers last year there was not enough evidence to charge Mohamed Haneef with supporting a terrorist organisation.

The comments were made in a submission to the Clarke Inquiry, which is investigating the handling of the case against the former Gold Coast-based doctor.

The terrorism charge against Dr Haneef was eventually dropped.

But the submission acknowledges the AFP was responsible for the final decision on whether to proceed with the charge.

An AFP spokesman says it would be inappropriate to comment while the Clarke Inquiry is ongoing.

Mohamed Haneef's lawyer says he is not confident a judicial inquiry will reveal why the Australian Federal Police (AFP) decided to charge his client with supporting a terrorist organisation.

Peter Russo says the submission from the AFP has not been publicly released, so he does not know why its officers went against the advice of their Queensland counterparts.

"That's one of the questions the Clarke Inquiry needs to answer although the terms of refernce are fairly narrow so I don't know whether they would enter into the arena in relation to that," Mr Russo said.

Who'd arrest them? The AFP? Do the Queensland police have juristicion over that kind of shit?

If the responsible parties did get brought to justice, it would be a glorious thing. Imagine! Government ministers! Having to face "consequences"!

Shouldn't it be Kevin "hey I lost my seat as well" Andrews, not Phillip Ruddock.

The whole Haneef thing was a farce by a desperate government to stroke racist, right wing fuckwits to its cause, in a bid to win an election which the opinion polls had shown they were going to lose. I guess Howard ran out of asylum seekers to villify. I eagerly await the investigations to see how much Howard actually knew.

If only we could drag Kevin Andrews up for questioning over this total mismanagement. But then we would have to put up with right wing shitheads like Gerard Henderson writing about how Rudd is trying to rewrite things to win the "culture wars". Oh wait...

Heh, one of my lecturers called Keelty and the AFP 'the Keystone Kops'
when it came to CT and it's easy to see why. Surely the highlight of the whole affair being the AFP writing a list of phone numbers in the diary, questioning Haneef, and then being forced to admit that they had written the phone numbers.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.
