I already covered the similarities between Sarah Palin and Michael Vick here.
Suffice it to say, there's no good reason for fly-by shooting of animals and several good reasons NOT to do it.
So when Palin decided to have more fly-by shootings, Ashley Judd did a PSA for Defenders of Wildlife to bring the issue to the attention of the media, and the ownage commenced. And of course the right-wing nutters went batshit because Judd isn't a fetus fetishist. That's right: you have no business objecting to cruelty to animals for "sport" because abortion is legal. Sarah Palin is the perfect representative for such imbeciles.
[Warning: the last two links may cause you to lose at least a dozen IQ points]
There were times I had wished that these pictures or ones like them had been made more availiable during the campaign despite the fact that they were disgusting. This was my biggest thing against Sarah Palin above all else and her moderate supporters were never really exposed to the cruelty she endorsed.

Which I'm relatively sure someone, somewhere, must've tried.
From down on the ground, it's hard to even spot the animal. I may not be a hunter, but I've gone tramping around nature reserves enough times to know that it's surprisingly difficult to get a good look at an animal.

Which is one of the reasons to oppose fly-by hunting. It's almost guaranteed to leave a larger number of wounded animals to die slow, painful deaths.
I saw a video of researchers tagging a Siberian tiger in some pretty harsh and remote terrain for research purposes once from an aircraft. Trying to hunt that same tiger on foot would probably carry a high likelihood of death for various reasons.

- Others have accurately summarized how finding the animal is much easier by aircraft but its not the whole story
- Th planes themselves tend to be deseigned for very low stall speeds and the hunter engages while moving perpendicular to the wolf's line of travel not parrallel, which means that you have less worry about missing left or right and only need to lead based on the speed of the wolf and not your own (it will affect range and therefore drop)
In other words its difficult but not nearly so tricky as one might guess even before taking into account the quality of rifle and optics in use. Still tough but easier than one might guess.
