GOP: We're done apologizing for our mistakes.(Seriously.)

Post by SirNitram »

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele will tell GOP state leaders Tuesday that they must embrace conservative principles, focus their efforts on rebuilding the party and highlight the policy differences between Republican ideals and President Obama's agenda.

"The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is now officially over," Steele will say in a speech to the RNC's 2009 State Chairmen's Meeting, according to excerpts obtained by CNN. "It is done. We have turned the page, we have turned the corner. No more looking in the review mirror. From this point forward, we will focus all of our energies on winning the future."

Congressional Republicans, who were loyal to President Bush throughout a majority of his two terms, largely sought to break with him in the 2008 elections because he had become a political liability.Over the past few months, GOP lawmakers have acknowledged that the party moved away from one of its core principles of smaller government and less federal spending during the Bush era.

Steele, who was elected to head the party in January, will say the GOP is now "beginning to rally" at the grassroots level after losing control of the White House and additional seats in the Senate and House in November.

"Those of you who actually attend Lincoln Day dinners, county party events, and tea parties…those of you who toil in the vineyards, spending time in communities, in diners, barber shops, and coffee shops where real every day people can be found…you know it is real," Steele will say, according to the excerpts.

The RNC chairman faces a difficult task of keeping the party united as different political factions maneuver to try and influence what political direction the GOP should head. Social conservatives argue that the party needs to return to its roots on issues such as abortion and stem cell research while centrists counter the GOP needs to be welcoming of all Republicans including those who believe in a more liberal political ideology.

Already, there have been casualties in this political fight. Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter recently became a Democrat, saying that he realized his political views were no longer in line with the Republican Party, and admitting he would have faced a difficult GOP primary in his re-election bid. Former Virginia Rep. Tom Davis, who is now the president of the centrist organization Republican Main Street Partnership, told CNN he thought Specter "was pushed" out of the party, and warned that other centrist GOP lawmakers might also leave if they no longer feel welcomed.

And in a recent appearance on CBS' Face the Nation, former Vice President Dick Cheney said he preferred conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh over his former colleague, Secretary of State Colin Powell, when it came to Republican politics. Powell had endorsed Obama over Republican nominee John McCain in the 2008 election.

In his speech, Steele will point to the late President Ronald Reagan, the architect of the modern-day Republican Party, to explain his own view on the GOP's future.

"As conservatives we must stop acting like we don't really believe in our principles," Steele will say. "Too often we act as if we are scared to apply our timeless principles to today's problems and challenges… For Reagan's conservatism to take root in the next generation we must offer genuine solutions that are relevant to this age."

And when it comes to the president, Steele will charge that on the campaign trail "Obama was very moderate in his views," but that since taking office the president "could not possibly be further to the far left."

"We are going to take this President on with class, we are going to take this President on with dignity," Steele will say. "This will be a very sharp and marked contrast to the shabby and classless way that the Democrats and the far left spoke of the last President."

The RNC meeting wraps up on Wednesday with a scheduled vote on a controversial resolution that calls on Democrats to rename their party the "Democrat Socialist Party."
What apologizing? Seriously, what apologizing was there? Except for that non-apology 'I apologize if anyone was offended' bullcrap.

And of course, this sad chariacture of a political party is 'MORE REAGAN' and 'EVIL SOCIALISTS' evermore.

Yeah, because attacking the President as "elitist" for putting Dijon mustard on a goddamn hamburger is pure class, and claiming that "you hope Obama fails" is really goddamn dignified. Only the Republican Party could make someone like Edward Teach appear positively demure and civilised by comparison.

Remember, the 66% of Americans who are not Republican, the 66% of Americans who don't consistently vote Republican, they're not real people!
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Toiling in Vineyards and Coffee shops? I thought wine places and coffee shops where the haven of the Evil Liberals? Now hes saying its where "Real every day people can be found" This man is truly bonkers. I really hope the GOP don't get rid of him because hes a godsend ot the Democrats. He has no real message, he has no vision, he has no plan for "Actually" repairing the GOP, all he has is fuzzy visions of the glory days under Regan and is repeating the same old "We didn't we because we arnt conservative enough" that has led to so much wonderful infighting already.

There are four, count 'em, four Starbucks within the walls of the Pentagon. That I know of. Coffee is a cross-spectrum thing nowadays.

Four in one building.

Wouldn't it have been more efficient to have one and go-karts?

Or at least more fun?

Well, two of them are on little vendor carts that are parked at the intersection of certain corridors.

I am not counting the Dunkin Donuts, various fast food joints, Seattle's Best, and various coffee that comes from the mini Quikie-marts in the building.

It takes a lot of gall to talk about "class" in politics when you attack entire classes of Americans as not being "real people" in the very same speech. Perhaps when he uses the word "class", he does not mean "classy", but rather, "our preferred socio-economic voting class".

Steele vows to take Obama 'head-on'

Buzz UpSendSharePrint
Featured Topics: Barack Obama

Reuters – Newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele talks with George Stephanopoulos …

Andy Barr – Tue May 19, 2:42 pm ET
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele vowed Tuesday that the GOP will confront President Barack Obama more aggressively and directly, regardless of his popularity in the polls.
“We are going to take the president head-on. The honeymoon is over. The two-party system is making a comeback, and that comeback starts today,” Steele said in remarks to an RNC meeting in Maryland.
“The president is personally popular. Pity the fool who paid for a poll to figure that out,” Steele said. “So…what’s the loyal opposition to do with this popular president? We are going to speak truth to power. We are going to speak directly, and we are going to take him on.”
Steele said that he has heard from many advisors suggesting that he take on less popular Democrats than the president, but the RNC chair said that the party will no longer “avoid confronting” Obama.
“They suggest that instead we should go after Nancy Pelosi, whom nobody likes. Or Harry Reid, whom nobody knows. Or this Tim Geithner fellow, whom nobody believes. Or maybe even Barney Frank, whom nobody understands,” he said.
“We are going to challenge those policies that we believe are wrong, and we are going to do so without apology and without a second thought.”
While promising a more aggressive approach, Steele also insisted that Republicans will show “class” in countering Obama.
“We are going to take this president on with dignity,” he said. “This will be a very sharp and marked contrast to the shabby and classless way that the Democrats and the far left spoke of President Bush.”
Steele also said that the “corner has been turned” for the GOP and predicted a Republican resurgence.
“The Republican comeback has begun. It is underway, and it is not in Washington,” he said.
In traveling the country, Steele said he has seen a stronger party than the one portrayed in Washington. He credited last month’s anti-tax “Tea Party” protests with providing a boost to the party’s grassroots.
“This change comes in a tea bag,” Steele declared.
In addition to cheering the grassroots Tea Party movement, Steele urged the party to find fresh ideas and new strategies.
“Our success will not be found in dusting off old campaign manuals from the 70’s and 80’s,” he said. “Our success will be found in speaking directly to the American people about a rebirth of the American Dream for this generation and generations to come.”
“The Republican Party is again going to emerge as the party of new ideas,” he added. “It will take some time, for sure, but it is beginning now.”

I wouldn't drill her if they filled the Superdome from floor to ceiling with money for my labour.

Back to topic —has it really become all that surprising that Steele would come out with such an asinine statement that "we're done apologising" given that the GOP has essentially ceased listening to any voice outside its own echo chamber?
While promising a more aggressive approach, Steele also insisted that Republicans will show “class” in countering Obama.

“We are going to take this president on with dignity,” he said. “This will be a very sharp and marked contrast to the shabby and classless way that the Democrats and the far left spoke of President Bush.”
Not happening with Rush as their de-facto leader.

I think something we need to realize, is that too almost all GOP, the asinine, crass, and outright racist things that Rush says on a regular basis are NOT perceived as "rude" or "crass" but simply Rush speaking the 'truth' as it were.

Yeah-- "We made a mistake in not being conservative enough!"

Seriously, that has been something of a mantra I hear from conservatives in the wake of the John McCain run. They want to become more far-right on all things.

Who sees, maybe, a "Romney-Palin" ticket in 2012? A lot can happen between now and then, but... hmmm.

Reason for it is due to the fact that even though they can admit they are wrong, they cannot admit that their ideas are wrong.

Hence, the reasoning why we should be even more conservative.
