This is standard in the news media among all outlets. Occasionally fuckups happen because of bad translation, misguided assumptions or just plain stupidity. Major outlets even have obits prepared for the deaths of major figures. Why? To get the scoop.

They were, but then when the defense started impeaching all the evidence and showing how bad the policework was, the italian media realized they'd been crucifying the girl to an incredible degree and have started to back off in recent months.

I haven't been following it much, but she has like a cult hero status in the Seattle area where I live, so everyone is celebrating. I heard there is even a petition for her to raise the 12th Man flag at the next home Seahawks game.

They were, but then when the defense started impeaching all the evidence and showing how bad the policework was, the italian media realized they'd been crucifying the girl to an incredible degree and have started to back off in recent months.

The original case came down to a judgement call regarding whether the judge had faith in her character, seeing as how it was circumstantial evidence against her word. The trial judge did not, the appeals court did. Maybe it will go one level further, maybe not.

Yeah, I don't get it. But like I said, she's practically revered here. All the news coverage is slanted and has been from the start for her being a victim of a corrupt justice system in Italy. There were actually verdict parties held.

If it turns out badly for her in real life and they want the hollywood "happy ending" they can always just say "inspired by" a true story rather than actually claiming it to be literal truth, Most people can't tell the difference anyway.

The prosecution built a shitty case. The evidence was shit. Forensic analysis of the supposed "murder weapon" showed it could not have made the wounds found on the body, and that's the only thing with supposed DNA evidence from Knox. Evidence that was attributed to Sollecito in the first trial, bloody shoe and foot prints was largely attributed to the other suspect Rudy Guede in this second trial. It seems to me like there was plenty of reasonable doubt in this case.

This went far beyond 'mucking up the case'. Not only was the police work sloppy as shit, the prosecution appears to have ignored evidence that didn't support their pre conceived theories of how the murder went down. Not to mention the Italian media screaming 'Blame the foreigner!' Lovely to see the Italian justice system is just as f*cked as the one here.

It's interesting reading about the reaction of local Italians. Apparently for the most part the latest court hearings were mostly a non-issue...until Knox and Sollecito were acquitted. Then suddenly people were in an uproar over the American press forcing the Italian courts into a miscarriage of justice.

I'm just embarrassed that West Seattle and Vashon are reacting to this like the Iran embassy hostages just got released. It really should not be such of a big deal. I worked on Vashon Island (which is a tight-knit community her grandparents live in accessible only by three routes of the state ferry service) for a while back when this trial was going on, which meant talk about it was all over the place then, more or less incessant talk which roughly compared Italy to what it was like under Mussolini. At least the talk of boycotting Italian products came to nothing.

What happy ending exactly? There is still the unresolved issue of who killed meredith kercher, how given the forensic evidence that would emerge from such a horrible crime can there be an element of 'unsolved' Reading how the prosecution handled the case originally defies belief. I don't know if she is innocent or guilty and until there is some clear proof or a breakthrough that removes all doubt then they should put those book and TV ideas on hold, but that is just wishful thinking.

Yeah that certainly helps the media circus but having witnessed similar cases in Germany and elsewhere it just is a standard reaction to "how dare the foreigners do that to one of us?" I bet there would be celebrations if she were, say, an 19 year old male as well.

Though nobody came out of the trial smelling of roses, so I don't get the Lifetime movie and all that. Especially as the verdict is not unimpeachable yet.
