A woman who made a sex tape with her teenage son after they were reunited after 15 years apart claims their relationship was not incest - but a case of 'genetic attraction'.

Mistie Rebecca Atkinson, 32, was sentenced to four years and eight months behind bars in Napa County Superior Court, California on Wednesday.

It came after she was found in a Ukiah, California motel room with the 16-year-old boy, who had recorded his mother giving him oral sex on his phone.

I think we've had articles posted here before where a birth mother had sex with her son after they'd been separated virtually their entire lives. They can be . . . complicated, and there's no Westermarck Effect in action due to the separation.

That said, the mother does sound like a predator. She apparently initiated the relationship by sending photos and sexually explicit suggestions to her son.

I find it rather hard to believe this kid hasnt been taught to be internet wary or is completely isolated to the point the media stories of such things has passed him by.
I sure as hell wouldnt sleep with my mother and I sure as hell would be damn skeptical about some random person sending me nude photos over the internet.
Nevermind the escalation to meeting and sleeping with some random person that talked to you online then maintaining a hidden relationship for a year.

If his sex education is typical of the average American teenager, he probably knows just enough to understand that the penis goes in a vagina, and you might get a disease if you don't wear a condom but it probably won't happen to him. I'd also be skeptical of whether or not he actually knew she was his mother.

There's also the matter of first generation incest not being a problem except for the obvious power dynamics that may be involved with an elder partner and a younger partner, it's only a problem if it's done for more than one or two generations. It's icky but it doesn't hurt anyone unless they already have some kind of recessive disorder that would be expressed. As for the prison sentence good, she had sex with an underaged kid. Also, while unpleasant, this woman's crime would probably be better suited for probation, community service, and a possible restraining order between the mother and son. However, given that the Westermarck effect wasn't able to take hold due to an adoption, I'm not really surprised that they felt sexual attraction toward one another and, as such, I'm not really too worked up about, and a 16 year old having sex with someone who isn't necessarily an authority figure (yeah, she's his biological mom, but he has adoptive parents, so I doubt she can force him to do stuff he wouldn't want to do on his own like the people who raised him could) is in a moral gray area at worst (doesn't stop it from being creepy on the mom's behalf to be fucking 16 year olds anyway, but there's a difference between creepy and morally or legally wrong).

Apparently he did:

“Atkinson and the victim are aware they are biological mother and son,” police state in the complaint.

In fact, it looks like he was trying pretty hard to be with his mom:

In February, Ukiah police met with the boy’s grandmother and other relatives who alleged Atkinson was having an incestuous relationship with the son. The boy, who was described as “out of control” by police, was staying with a relative in Ukiah until he could be placed in a group home, according to court documents.

The father had sent the boy to Ukiah partly in an effort to separate him from his biological mother, authorities reported in Atkinson’s probation report.

The grandmother alleged the boy was sneaking out of his relative’s house to meet with Atkinson in spite of a restraining order barring the woman from contacting the boy, authorities said in the court filing.

Here's another little bit of (alleged) nastiness:

“She started to have a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with him, not a mother-and-son relationship. It got to a point where their conversation began talking about harming me and killing off her boyfriend she was (now) living with. She was sending him pictures of her body and basically seducing him. The relationship needs to stop and we told both of them but they continue to get in contact with each other. It’s unhealthy and they need to stay apart,” the [father] said.

The father obtained a restraining order against Atkinson in December, according to the court document.

I'm rather surprised that The Daily Mail didn't pick up on that bit of sensationalism. They're losing their touch.

Main problem should be that she had sex with a minor, not that they're related. Incest is squicky, but if everyone involved is a consenting adult it's nobody's business but theirs. She should get whatever standard sentence is meant for having sex with a minor, and that's the end of it.

The boy was living with the father. He knew who she was. She did not have any visiting rights to him. I have a feeling that this was this woman's sick and twisted way of getting back at the father. That said, the son is pretty sick and twisted myself too even though he is a victim. She aint even a milf.
