Farmer downed an apache?
From a Swedish newspaper:
A farmer downed an apache
http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/s ... 89,00.html
To be fair the newspaper is saying that the rotors and arments are undamaged so it was probebly an engine failure that downed it.
The propaganda bs is in full swing.

Thread moved. Hope the pilots are ok.
Do they have grenades to sabotage the aircraft?

No word on the pilots from that chopper in that article.Vympel wrote:Thread moved. Hope the pilots are ok.

But a paragraph down Iraqi is saying that they downed an other chopper and captured two pilots.
Ahh well I'll belive it when I see it.

I don't think it's possible if it was flying. It landed for it's own reasons, or because of AA fire somewhere around the place. Farmers throwing grenades and making an Apache go down? Wow, that's even more incredble than cossacks attacking PzKpfw IV tanks with blades...

It probably copped a sweet little bullet somewhere. Can't have been too big a hit, of course.Stas Bush wrote:Vympel

I meant the pilots should have sabotaged their own aircraft, to prevent the most advanced Apache variant in service falling into enemy hands virtually intact.Farmers throwing grenades and making an Apache go down? Personally I wouldn’t pose near a downed US aircraft. As soon it its found its going to get a 2000 pound bomb. And without a big truck and crane its not going anywhere.

It was stated that while an Apache was missing, the Army was unsureof where it had gone down. However it wont take long to figure it out. Still, there is a good chance it will be hidden before it can be hit.
Though it matters little if they cant get it out of the country.

They might send it over to Iran- just like they did their air force in 91 (gosh that was bizarre)Sea Skimmer wrote:It was stated that while an Apache was missing, the Army was unsureof where it had gone down. Even getting it to Iran would be difficult. Cutting the rotors off makes things easier but it still a big object and needs a big truck and crane. And it looks like its in a field, so getting a truck and crane out to it may be difficult.
They might get it out. But then it may already have been blown to pieces. Course you can learn a lot from those, but only given time. The Soviets managed to reassemble the radar of a fully loaded Phantom that crashed into a mountain at 500 knots in Vietnam.
Strange, it looks like the weapons stations are empty. That might just mean ti saw heavy combat first, but it could be the crew knew they mighth ave to put down and fired them off to self destruct.

Nope, on CNN (another picture) it's rocket pods were clearly still attached- I think by the time the picture there was shown, the weapons had already been carted off by the Iraqis.Sea Skimmer wrote:Even getting it to Iran would be difficult. I was talking about the Hellfires, which would be on the inner pylons. Not much to be learned from a Hydra 70 launcher or rocket. But they may very well have been hauled off.
Not like its the first time end end US weapons have gotten into hostile hands intact. Hell, South Africa stole the plans to the Hellfire already and put it into production.

It has at least 4 Hellfires in the outer station pylons, the footage only shows one side of the helicopter.Sea Skimmer wrote:I was talking about the Hellfires, which would be on the inner pylons. Not much to be learned from a Hydra 70 launcher or rocket. But they may very well have been hauled off.

I would just rip off the sensor turret at the front, the radar on the mast, and perhaps cut open the cheeks to get to the avionics. leave the rest for scrap.

The Iraq will have no problems with this Apache. They'll care.
