Colorado town proposes shooting down federal drones

Post by Lagmonster »

Couldn't pass this up. A podunk town (Deer Trail, pop. 600) in Colorado has proposed an ordenance which would permit them to shoot down drones that fly overhead, and offers a bounty on collected parts.

I'm not entirely certain which laws would smush people who open fire on unmanned aircraft, but I love the guts on these idiots. Choice quotes from the article:
"There are many things that are illegal, but the United States federal government declared war on us. This is our response."
I'm absolutely positive that the government's guns are bigger.
"What has me fired up is it's trespassing. It doesn't belong there (in the sky over his house)."
My property line extends straight upwards 10,000ft at each corner. How about yours?
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Old news, either the Daily Show or Colbert Report covered this about a month ago and it's more one lone nutter (he might be on the town council can't remember) with some support, rather than the whole town. Life should get interesting for him, because aside from idiocy of proposing a law allowing the shooting down UAVs operated by either federal or state authorities he has already been printing and selling licenses to hunt drones. Say what you will about governments, but one thing they all have in common is a dislike for those who tread on their territory of licensing. Unless this is a different small CO town.

It was Colbert see here.

The man is clearly insane. I especially love the bit where he carried a Nerf gun into the city council meeting while the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly played. It was bad enough there was a literal facepalm by a citizen of the town during the meeting. It is also great how he ties drones to Obama-care(according to him it could be used for surveillance of smokers).
