Steven Seagall to run for governor of AZ

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Ah my home state of Arizona , you never cease to amaze me

PHOENIX (AP) — Action-movie star Steven Seagal says he is considering a run for Arizona governor.

The "Marked for Death" actor told KNXV-TV (http://goo.gl/jNxPSd) that he is considering a shot at the state's highest office and has had a talk about the bid with the self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in America.

The 61-year-old made the comments while talking about his newly released reality series "Steven Seagal - Lawman: Maricopa County."

Seagal teamed up with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for the show that was shot in Arizona and airs on cable TV's Reelz Channel.

The martial arts expert is a member of Arpaio's posse, made up of 3,000 unpaid civilians. He also has been deputized with sheriff's offices in New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana and says he wants to increase border security.

I would not mind this were it not for the fact that Steven good friend Sheriff Joe Arpaio are so tight. You want to run for governor? Sure in a Republican primary why not, better than some of the other options out there. But with friends like Arpaio I owe the rule of law and the people of the state my best effort to letting that tin god get a scrap more power.

Man, wouldn't it be great if Chuck Norris were to run for governor of Texas?

After watching that all I can say is that america deserves Chuck Norris.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Considering his role in Machete, this is pretty funny.

Cracked is not know for being accurate, but I do remember they saying he was involved with the mafia or something like that....

Also, I bet Seagal is in fact an undercover federal agent trying to bust the corrupt sheriff, of course.

Wouldn't Seagal being a Buddhist cause problems for him in the GOP primary? Now I don't know the average Arizonian GOP voter too well, but I can't see them voting for anyone who's not Christian (or Jewish, if they're being extremely open minded that day).

I'm sure someone's just looking for a ratings bump.

Didn't his series (Seagal) get demoted to Reelz?

Communism is the terror. Socialism is the pathway to Communism.

It begins with some nice healthcare and education. Eighteen months later you're trying to meet your coal mining targets, lest you visit miniluv.

Probably not. Outside of the Mormon areas, you don't really see a lot of evangelical strength in the Arizona GOP. They're much more into race-baiting and being independent westerners who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps (with lots and lots of government-funded infrastructure projects btw). Being Buddhist wouldn't in and of itself cause problems for Seagall.

Being Steven Seagall would be waaaaay more problematic. The filing deadline is coming up at the end of May and the primary is at the end of August. It's tough to put an infrastructure in place to get on the ballot, tough to win a competitive primary for governor, and really tough to win a contested election in a swing-ish state if you're a first time candidate. Since Steven Seagall manifestly does not have a political bone in his body, it'd be tough for him to win anything ever. I'm with WP on this. It's clearly a stunt to boost viewing of whatever crappy reality TV show he's working on now.

I dunno, he'd probably be pretty popular if he got up there and shouted racial slurs.

I'm sort of surprised that Sheriff Joe isn't running himself. As for Seagal, I doubt that he could find enough money to make up for his organizational deficiency.

Sheriff Joe is over 80 and is probably more influential in his Maricopa County fiefdom than he would be as governor. Don't forget that he's been there for over 20 years now, and that kind of seniority can make an elected position more comfy than taking a shot at a position that's more visible/important. Besides, getting elected Sheriff in Maricopa county is very different than getting elected Governor of Arizona. It has a little over half of the voters in the state, is slightly more conservative than the state as a whole, and most importantly has fewer Democratic bastions than the state as a whole. Sheriff Joe's been losing more and more voters each election, and it probably wouldn't be a great idea for him to jump ship at this point.
