43 dead in Beirut bombing

Post by madd0ct0r »

Isis have claimed it. They claimed they used two Palestinians and and one Syrian.

Three suicide bombers, targeting a Shia mosque and a bakery.
Aim seems to have been to destabilise this weekends peace talks for lebanon's own civil war.

My Turkish friends are getting a bit passed how this was ignored on facebook in favour of France

Is this the one where the dude tackled another suicide bomber who was waiting to blow up the crowd/first responders? Saw it on Reddit.

bloody hell, didn't know that. thanks for the heads up.
guardian is reporting it as 'local media is reporting', so I'm not sure how confirmed it is.

Adel Termos, a Beirut resident out with his young daughter, witnessed a horrific bombing on Thursday. Then he made a split-second decision that saved countless lives. As a second suicide bomber moved toward onlookers clustering at the scene of the explosion, Termos rushed the suspect.

"He tackled him to the ground, causing the second suicide bomber to detonate," says blogger and physician Elie Fares, who lives in Beirut. "There are many many families, hundreds of families probably, who owe their completeness to his sacrifice."
one tweeter is saying his daughter also died in the attack, but i've not found that anywhere else.

Is there any way this all plays out where ISIS doesn't get exactly what they want? That being a frothing-at-the-mouth Western reaction that encourages a siege mentality amongst previously moderate (or at least non-radicalized) Muslims?

The signs, so far, are less than stellar.
Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?
