The artist known as Prince has died ... TMZ has learned. He was 57.
Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.
The singer -- full name Prince Rogers Nelson -- had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu.
42116-sub-prince-instagram-02Prior to his most recent appearance however, Prince had cancelled two shows due to health concerns.
Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album "1999."
He went on to churn out a ton of hits -- and racking up 7 Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 ... in one of the greatest live performances of all time.
He also sold more than 100 million records during his career ... and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985.
Prince was married two times -- the first time to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia. They split in 2000. He then married Manuela Testolini ... but they split in 2006.
He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and performed a legendary version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" to close the ceremony.
Wow, this is just under Robin Williams passing in terms of how hearing about it has shocked me.
The man could grind an axe, fucking sad day.

Prince has been called a Musician's Musician. With guitar skills that equaled any Rock God, he was also singer, songwriter, and composer extrodinare. Nearly 40yrs of music that changed and challenged the music industry.
2016, you're a bitch. I'll bet you're not even going to release the album you're recording up there with all these musicians you've been stealing.

I know exactly what you mean, I can't remember so many high profile star passing in so short a time.
Celebrities, minor or major have been dropping like flies this past 24hrs. First was Joanie "Chyna" Laurer, former WWE wrestler, Prince and just a little while ago read that Richard "Pastor Dick" Lyons of the band Negativland has also passed away.

どうして?お前が夜に自身お触れるから。 Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

BTW: A little fact got posted that I'd totally forgotten about.
Remember Tipper Gore, wife of Al Gore, who went into a media hissy over Explicit Lyrics in songs back in the 1980s and gotr all those big huge "MAY CONTAIN EXPLICIT LYRICS" all over rock albums (that actually made more people buy them)?
The song that set it off was Prince's "Darling Nikki" off the Purple Rain album.
For those who may NOT have heard this funky little beat, it's hard to find on Youtube, but I did....

I find it touching that a lot of fans are responding by holding dance parties. What a wonderful way to honor a musician, by playing and celebrating his music.

Any news on what he died from 57 seems way too young for a man that as far as I know had no drug abuse problems or something similar, still it's a shame to see a talented artist pass away.

Some news sites (I make no stand on veracity, but you can probably Google it) are saying that the reason his plane made an emergency landing was that he overdosed on Percocet or some such prescription drug. It's possible there were complications from this.

Not to mention the Hag earlier this month.

Autopsy is being done at the moment, so we'll find out soon enough.

"Soon enough" maybe somewhere between days and weeks (the latter for tox screening).
Last week his plane diverted on his way home to seek medical treatment. Even though he claimed to be feeling better that may have been putting a good face on things and something he had killed him.
It's possible he had some problem (aneurysm, as a totally speculative example, or hidden heart arrhythmia) that can result in sudden unexpected death at any age.
It's possible it was an adverse reaction or combination of legitimate prescription drugs.
He has rep for being clean, sober, and healthy so I would be VERY shocked if it was drug abuse.

There used to be two rumors floating about:
1. Prince was Epilectic
2. Prince had a hip injury that needed surgery to fix. (Jehovah's Witness, so he couldn't be given blood during surgery and never had it).
The second rumor would explain the Percocet.

I was always leaning toward the second rumor myself.

The first isn't a rumor, it's directly based on statements by Prince who very clearly said that he had seizures as a child.
He was a Jehovah's Witness, which, if that winds up being connected somehow to his death via refusal to get needed surgery it will be yet another example of the harm of that religion.

I'll second all of the above. I've already given my second-hand account of the man's off-stage behavior in the Venting thread.
