Going to vote now...
I am going to vote in the local poll at six tonight. On the ballot is the referendum for appropriating 4.6 million dollars to build an addition onto the local high school. Included in the referendum are additions to the MUSIC and PERFORMING ARTS departments and renovations to the auditorium roof, as well as renovation of the Home-Ec rooms.
I am proud to say that when I was at that school I never took one single Music, Drama, or Home Ec class, and I wouldn't want my kids to take any either. The music teachers are assholes and communists, and the people who take those classes are also rich scumbags. Home-Ec isn't so bad, but it still sucks compared to Metals and Autos.
Therefore, I will proudly vote NO on this school referendum, and I hope everyone else in the district turns out and does the same thing.

While I don't agree all that much with Falkenhorst, it do find it annoying how much Auto Metal and Wood shop are neglected in my school in favor of music and arts. Hell, our school used to have a full metal shop but when a new wing was added and the existing building heavily renovated they discarded almost all of the metal working equipment and cut back the wood and auto shops. There was no damn excuse for that, those rooms already had enough space and the school had a considerable gain in floor space, though the old win was mostly demolished.

Shit.
Our local group of incompetent assholes (school board) made 10 million dollars in budget cuts by eliminating school nurses, driver's ed, aides, janitors, and other non-administration positions.
Meanwhile, the new superintendent makes $125k per year and gets a corporation supplied, maintained, gassed, and insured $40k Toyota Avalon for his personal use.
The previous superintendent is under contract as a 'consultant' that pays him his entire previous salary for the next few years and yet his new job is both full time and in the next state.
They've also carpeted the hallways at all of the schools, built new facades for the front of the High Schools, and threw out perfectly good P3-733 machines to buy brand new P4 machines for the elementary schools.
The worst part is that after making the aforementioned budget cuts as painful as they could, they got permission from the state to hold a referendum to raise the operating fund property taxes by 10 million per year.
And instead of having the vote take place during May's primary elections, they scheduled it to take place on April 8 and are only having 41 polling stations open throughout the county instead of the almost 100 that are normally in use (and would be in use for the primary) during an election.
Their excuse: It'll save money.
Bullshit. It costs them money ($40k) that they wouldn't have to spend if it were on the ballot during May's primary.
What they really want to do is sneak this by the taxpayers.
They're even sending kids home with 'let's pass this for the good of our kids' propaganda.
I plan on showing up to vote and I plan on voting NO as well.

Re: Going to vote now...
You fucking scumbag. Let me inform you of something: You're painting the Fine Arts department personnel with such a wide brush that you'd need four people to control it. (Not that you'd know anything about brush-strokes.) The obvious point is this: Not all music teachers are assholes, nor are they communists, nor are all kids who take music classes rich. And to say so implies more bullshit than I thought one man could have courisng through his veins.Falkenhorst wrote:I am going to vote in the local poll at six tonight. Almost as obvious is this singular point: How can you hold any kind of opinion at all on the Fine Arts curriculum and its staff when you yourself have never taken a single course in it? How can you call the teachers assholes if you've never had reason to encounter them? Besides that, so what if some of the teachers ARE assholes? Can you say with a straight face that other teachers in other departments are not also assholes?
The lesser obvious points are these: First, essentially what you're doing by voting that way is condemning someone who WANTS to be a musician or actor to follow another course, because there just isn't enough money to cover the expenses of that child's music lessons or theatre classes. Your career path led you away from the Fine Arts. Fine. But why would you help to shut off the means to achieve that other person's dream?
Second: What you're also doing by voting that way is advocating for a generation of children with hampered creativity and lack of inspiration. If every course in school becomes academic, children will come to know only that: The logical, routine monotony that is scholasticism. Their lives will follow suit, and while they may be able to APPRECIATE the creativity of others (learned through listening to music and seeing plays and such,) they will never be able to recreate that creative expression.
Third: It would be possible, too, that if every course became academic, some children would quickly lose interest in schooling in general. I know that my Fine Arts classes were the only reason I went to school at all in High School, and attending school got me into college, where I continued to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for my school's music / theater program. And I was not the only one. I knew no fewer than 20 kids whose stories were the same.
I strongly urge you to reconsider your vote, if that's possible at this point. While you may feel vindicated in voting this way, you're only hurting other students. You are no hero; you're not saving the academic schedules of kids in your county. You've got a hand in crushing the dreams of potential artists, musicians, actors, etc.

Well I was an alto sax player in my highschool band, and although the teacher was apt to blow a blood vein dealing with some of the students, he wasn't a communist. Home-ec was mandatory (I made the best brownies... mmmm)... but I certainly wasn't rich, and as I didn't have any enemies, the scumbag label wasn't really applicable either.

Re: Going to vote now...
Let me just tell you again in case you didn't hear me right the first time, fucknut: Arts and Music teachers, in my experience, are a bunch of mentally disturbed jackoffs who live their lives in a constant state of delusion about their own importance. Never once have I met an art or music teacher who I would consider sane. And to say so implies more bullshit than I thought one man could have courisng through his veins.
I have seen it from the outside, I have taken mandatory art and Music classes in Elementary and Middle Schools. I have been personally force-fed their stinking shit. Art and Music teachers are generally assholes. That is to say that in my experience, MOST OF THEM ARE FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT. There are other teachers who also make a regular habit out of eating shit, mostly the Math and Psychology instructors, but for the most part the Coprophages are concentrated in the Music and Arts areas.Almost as obvious is this singular point: How can you hold any kind of opinion at all on the Fine Arts curriculum and its staff when you yourself have never taken a single course in it? How can you call the teachers assholes if you've never had reason to encounter them? Besides that, so what if some of the teachers ARE assholes? Can you say with a straight face that other teachers in other departments are not also assholes?
Although I was smart enough never to take their classes, I was unfortunate enough to make the acquaintance of these pathetic fuckstains on numerous other occasions during my time in High School. I could give you a list a mile long about their personal problems, but don't expect me to waste that much time on bad memories.
Because I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THEIR DREAMS, especially if they're fucking pansy pencil dicked effeminate little perverts who like Art or Music. I took a test when I was in like 4th grade and all these .90 caliber music department fuckheads tried telling me I had some natural musical aptitude and that I should join the band. Naturally I was fucking horrified and told them right away to FUCK OFF and never bother me again.
That's what school is all about, ACADEMICS, learning shit, like English and History. The Music and Arts departments are useless deadwood establishments that cater to the rotten upper crust of screwballs and perverts who have nothing better to do and think they're better than everyone else. They should rip out the fucking music and arts departments all together and replace them with huge fucking LIBRARIES. That would be much more fucking worthwhile.Second: What you're also doing by voting that way is advocating for a generation of children with hampered creativity and lack of inspiration. If every course in school becomes academic, children will come to know only that: The logical, routine monotony that is scholasticism. Their lives will follow suit, and while they may be able to APPRECIATE the creativity of others (learned through listening to music and seeing plays and such,) they will never be able to recreate that creative expression.
Well let me congratulate you on your MARVELOUS FUCKING ACHIEVEMENT, HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAH....Third: It would be possible, too, that if every course became academic, some children would quickly lose interest in schooling in general.
Now, thanks to the art/music establishment, you are an A-number one certified producer of useless pictures/music/etc. which is of absolutely NO VALUE WHATSOEVER, except to crowds of brainless sophists and other zombies who wipe their asses with $100.00 bills. Eat my puke.
Well, I guess it's TOO LATE NOW, dipshit. I'm just getting back at the useless motherfuckers for the 4 years I had to put up with my high school being infested with the liberal perverts who were twisted and warped so badly from their classes. I could give a fuck about being a hero, I did it for personal reasons. Everyone else who knows what I'm talking about is smart enough to save themselves. I am proud to crush these twisted fuckers now. A stitch in time saves 9, and if I can help clip these twisted psychos in the bud now, I won't have to worry about them later on when they gain power and influence and try spreading their warped ideology to MY KIDS in 20 years.I strongly urge you to reconsider your vote, if that's possible at this point. While you may feel vindicated in voting this way, you're only hurting other students. You are no hero; you're not saving the academic schedules of kids in your county. You've got a hand in crushing the dreams of potential artists, musicians, actors, etc.
Oh, and one more thing, Queeb... Since I have had the misfortune to read your posts expressing your anti-war views in the other thread in the politics forum, I am taking this opportunity to tell you to FUCK OFF.

Learn how to read, you fucking reject. There was Mr. B the Band teacher, Mrs. J the Music teacher, Mr. W the Music teacher and Mrs. S the Drama teacher. Mr. W was a communist, and so was his son... His son G was a RABID communist and had a group of communist followers. They would congregate at a lunch table in the cafeteria every day and concoct their bullshit. Therefore, 1/4 of the Music/Art staff was Communist. Furthermore I can't tell you how many other art/music teachers in the state and country are commies, so maybe you should shut the fuck up before I turn your generalization sideways and shove it up your ass.Stormbringer wrote:Wow, that's the dumbest rant I've seen in a long time. ...I don't even know where to begin with you. Your blatant lack of regard for humanity is disturbing to say the least. I can honestly say at this point in time after having read that post, that while incredibly articulate in your response, it is plain to me that you have no soul at all. Do you not know that art and music are the things that define a culture as humans? Do you even care that humanity exists, or are you content to just play with numbers and live in the dreams of others?
You are uninspired, and your comments show as much. Your soul lacks the fundamental elements of humanity. You are as much a stone or a patch of dirt as you are a man, becase a real man recognizes that he is dependent upon others to survive. That in mind, he would never accuse another of having dreams that are illigitimate, at least not to the extent of wanting to draw or play music and display the creative nature not only of Americans, but of humans in general. Your opinions contradict the notion of individual expression; you advocate men as sheep.
As for your children, I hope two things for them: First, I hope that they see through your Nazistic, fascist, bigoted, prejudiced point of view and denounce you for the neo-Hitler that you are. Second, I hope they find ways of expressing themselves through music, art, poetry, dance, theater or song. I hope that some day your eldest son writes a novel condemning your jaded social views; I hope your daughter takes up the violin and becomes fascinated with Jewish folk music. And I hope above all else that it wounds you so deeply that you become a recluse and can no longer function as a part of society, saving us from having to deal with you and your kind.
If you remember correctly, friend, Hitler was an artist.

<cracks open a beer and waits for Zaia to show up> This should be a good one.
And Jesus Q. Christ, Falk, I understand the sentiment to go tell the school board to piss off when they demand more money, since most of the time it's for ego projects and administrative gold plating, but art and music are worthwhile programs. Both encourage abstract thinking and creativity; music also improves mathmatical skills. For a lot of people, it's a break in the drudgery of the average high school day. The cost of such programs are miniscule compared to after school athletic programs with no academic value whatsoever. For fuck's sake, music and art are the whole fucking reason you have a civilization, after putting food on the table every night. Frankly, I'd vote against computers in the classroom (except computer classes) before I'd vote against art and music.

Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture. Is it Kosher to call for the banning of a member based on his extremist, fascist, bigoted political views? If so, I have a candidate in mind.

The way I see it is this: if it keeps kids in school, its worthwhile, regardless of whether it has any inherit educational value. Thats how I feel about fine arts, sports, and damn near anything else in school.
