WASHINGTON (ABC7) — The Secret Service says a man set himself on fire near the White House on Wednesday afternoon.
Secret Service said the man lit himself on fire at the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Avenue at approximately 12:20 p.m.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid.
The U.S. Park Police is investigating the incident.
The Ellipse is a park just south of the White House, where the National Christmas Tree is located.
The individual was extinguished and later transported to a local hospital for treatment. A Secret Service officer was also transported for smoke inhalation.
The United States Park Police, Criminal Investigations-Major Crime Unit, is seeking the public’s help. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact the CIB Tip Line at (202) 610-8737 or U.S. Park Police Communications at (202) 610-7500.

Not yet confirmed that it was politically-motivated, though given the location and the history of self-immolation as a form of protest, it seems likely.

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — A man who set himself on fire outside of the White House has died from his injuries. Montgomery County Police say he was reported missing.
United States Park Police identified the man as 33-year-old Arnav Gupta, of Bethesda, Maryland. Gupta died from his injuries at an area hospital on Wednesday evening.
Gupta was reported missing on Wednesday morning and was last seen by his family when he left his Cindy Lane home in Bethesda.

First responders were able to extinguish Gupta and he was taken to the hospital. A Secret Service officer was also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
