This Pro-War and Anti-War crap has gone to fucking far

Post by Alyeska »

First Congress makes a law about the idiot "Freedom Fries". Then France and Germany start boycotting US goods.

Its getting even worse. Some fucking idiot who sells goods on E-bay refuses to ship to any country not part of the "Coalition of the Willing". That means this fucking idiot won't even ship to Canada.
http://www.wired.com/news/ebiz/0,1272,58190,00.html

And of course the other side must retalliate.

A sight called Startrek Dimension has locked out English language access to their sight.

http://www.stdimension.net/
http://www.stdimension.de/

I am getting sick and fucking tired of this one upsmenship. Canadians are already getting spat upon when in the US and anyone speaking English is mobbed over in Europe. This is fucking pathetic. And whats worse is that these ass holes who started this mess in the first place are dragging normal people into this. Normal people get polarized when they are insulted by the other side.

By making the sides so fucking extreme, no one is going to change their opinion worth a damn. When you practicaly spit on them merely for the country they are in and punish them, they will ulimately side against you rather then possibly agree with you. All this is doing is inflaming the situation and alienating people for no goddamned reason.

I REALLY hate the "Anti-War protestors are traitors and deserve to be shot" or the "Pro-War supporters are foaming at the mouth warmongers" statements as well.

I am fucking tired of this shit. This is not a goddamned black and white issue. There is LOTS of grey area here and I am not going to let fucking idiots on either side try and drag me from my position. I don't give a rats ass what their opinion is, I am firmly rooted in my grey area and I won't let either side try and force me to choose or be trampled.

The news media ought to pick up on this dangerous phenomena and how it is runing families and relations as well as screwing over the innocent bystandards of every nation.

I agree with Alyeska. Everything has become more polarized, more fractious, more angry, more one-dimensional. You can't say a fucking thing without being labelled and attacked.

Very true. I would never claim to be an innocent party in this matter, I've done some labeling, but I've also been labeled. It's nfortunate but inevitable whenever you have an issue as divisive as this war.

EVERYone gets labeled. It's almost as if Bush's dictum from about a year ago is acutally holding true in the minds of Americans: You're either with us, or you're against us. It's terrible. You're either a commie pinko liberal bastard, or a right-wing oil- and power-hungry fascist bastard. It's so black and white it's sickening. ::Sighs:: When do you think it will end?

Frankly, its all very childish. Americans cry foul yelling, "The French were mean to us! They didn't help us beat up this bully. Lets not let him sit at our lunch table anymore!" Ofcourse by that I mean singling them out, insulting them, and the most childish of all "Freedom Fries."

Then the French start yelling, "We'll show those Americans, if we can't eat at that lunch table, than no one can!" And they boycott the "lunch table" so to speak. Than the Americans one up them, and so on and so forth.

All you have to do is replace the French and Americans with rabid "Pro-War" and "Anti-War" supporters, and you can see where this is going.

The real question is: how long will it take these wounds to heal?

Second question: what can be done in order to fix this? Or do we adopt the stance that some have taken, that this is simply the "new world order" and everybody had just better get used to things being this way?

Did you know a Canadian woman at an airbase was insulted because her country wasn't in the war? Did you know her husband was flying an AWACS over Iraq?

I agree. Both sides are grdually coming more and more immature. While the anti-war crowd organizes disorderly protests, the pro-war side boycotts and marginalizes everyone who doesn't agree with them (Take the Dixie Chicks for example, or Martin Sheen, who's VISA commercial was pul;led off of the air because of his political views, even if tehy're not expressed in the commercial itself). It's quite sickening, and these people are only making one giant ass out of everyone they represent.

In answer to the first question, not too long for Germany and the United States and Russia, but I'm not sure that French-American relations will ever recover. Diplomats have described the rift as being "irreparable." Frankly, with France's recent demands for media access and a role in the rebuilding of Iraq on the American budget, I don't think that they should be repaired.

Let's face it, compared to nations like Britain and Germany, American relations with France have never been stellar in the post-WWII era. I frankly do not see the point of fixing relations with a Western country that is 25% in favor of American failure in the current war.

I don't remember it ever being this polarized during the Gulf War. It's truly sad how bad things have gotten. Lety's hope that a quick victory calms things down, but I foresee some tension for a long time to come particularly in teh French arena.

The world has always been like this and always will. We just have to accept that the past sixty years were an aberration as opposed to the norm.

I dissagree that the worl will always be like this. Europe was once fudal but that changed and if Europe can change then so can the rest of the planet.
