Yeah, after all, who wants to hear from the UN weapons inspector who's at the heart of the whole affair anyway?

Not me. He got the better part of a decade the first time around and ended up leaving.

The UN weapons inspectors where never meant to search for anything, Iraq was suppose to actively show them where everything was, and the inspectors would then check off that it was destroyed. Blix has said them himself more then once. That active cooperation never happened; at the very best it's been passive. That’s why inspections could never work.

Hear hear!

I really do not know what to think of Blix, he knows exactly what the resolutions said, yet continues to insist that they were searching for WMDs, instead of proof of disarmament.

How else would you propose that he go about his job?

Actually it was Richard Butler for the first decade, then he quit after Iraq legitimately expelled the inspectors due to the US putting intelligence agents in the group.

Active cooperation has happened, just not on the scale that people wanted and the evasion of the inspectors has been in the majority.

Which says a whole right there.

Inspections were never going to work with Iraq working hard to conceal and misdirect them. They were a bunch of bureacrats that were at best marginally effective. The inspections had more than a decade and he still had illegal weapons, possibly even WMDs and a program to create more.

So the US gets to clean up the mess. And we'll probably end up fixing the Korean mess too.

Wow. Stupidity is running rampant in this thread. North Korea was certified as a non-Nuclear state, before it restarted its weapon's program. So technically he was right... Unfortunately you people really live in a black and white fallacy world, where everything remains static and nothing changes. Too bad.

I was wondering when someone was gonna bring that point up. (The only reason I didn't was because lately I've been caught shoving my hand into a jar of knives more than once recently...)

But yes, Blix went over there before the rearmorment of N. Korea had begun. No nuclear capabilities. And then N. Korea gets into a row with the US, so the US pulls their oil supply. Well, Koreans need energy, so they use this as a perfect opportunity to build their little "power plant." Let's not fool ourselves. The plant produces enough energy to run things within the plant. There's something else going on in there. Since then, Blix hasn't returned. And, save the whole governmental adoption and brainwashing of triplets, that takes us up to the present as far as current events concerning N. Korea goes.

Actually, Ando, it was Richard Butler who unilaterally (without consulting the UNSC) pulled the inspectors out, once the Iraqis learned that Butler had bowed to US pressure to seed US spies among the inspectors to spy on Iraq's power structure, rather than disarm Iraq.
