Tell me, what the hell is disgraceful about this?
Basicallty the article just says that French people are starting to doubt if their government did the right thing by keeping its hard stand against the war. Let me quote the text: "We're seeing a subtle shift," Defarges said. "We are starting to hear a more dissonant voice in France. The U.S. victory has made the debate more complex."
Many Americans and British changed their mind on the war as well when the Shock and Awe started with success...

There is nothing wrong with changing one's mind, as long as you change it in the right direction.

Of course, and the U.S. is the last country in the position to say otherwise.Darth Wong wrote:There is nothing wrong with changing one's mind, as long as you change it in the right direction.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

One thing all the reasonable antiwar people must agree with, is that the war was much less bloody than it was feared. the worst case scenarios in the cities didn't even come close to happen, due to the coalition huge military and strategic superiority.
The price that had to be paid to get rid of Saddam was much smaller than many predicted. That in itself makes many people change their minds about the utility of the war.
No matter all the lovely french bashing, the absolute majority of the french know exactly what Saddam is/was.

Agreed, but the fact that twenty-five percent of the French public (according to one poll) wished for an Iraqi victory is extremely disconcerting.Colonel Olrik wrote:One thing all the reasonable antiwar people must agree with, is that the war was much less bloody than it was feared. the worst case scenarios in the cities didn't even come close to happen, due to the coalition huge military and strategic superiority.

OK, so France is 25% composed of assholes and 75% composed of people whose opinion changes with the prevailing wind. Could be worseDurran Korr wrote:Agreed, but the fact that twenty-five percent of the French public (according to one poll) wished for an Iraqi victory is extremely disconcerting.

I think that is the opinion of a lot of the anti war types.the article wrote:No one is cheering the U.S. government, but there's support for the fall of Saddam and the swift manner in which it was accomplished.

Too bad there's all sorts of legal hoobajooba over that sweet delicious Iraqi oil.......

The fact that we did it relatively bloodlessly helps. They were convinced that Baghdad would be a Stalingrad and that therest of the country would be a Vietnam (which the FRench themselvs had first-hand experience in).
They did not want to see us take out a wrath of fury like the bombing of Dresden. They were surprised that we were fairly light handed in our attacks, and the Iraqis seem genuinely pleased that Saddam is gone.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!
