Yahoo reporting N.K. claims to have ~100 nukes aimed at U.S.

Post by Miles Teg »

I rolled across this http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... 0504052449 earlier today, and I thought it was interesting. If N. Korea is bluffing (which is measily the case), then they probably just screwed themselves. I doubt Bush would allow such a threat to go unanswered.. Everyone ready for Korean War II?

I will let my more military minded bretheren explain how the Pyongyang is, as usual, utterly full of shit.

There is no way North Korea could have tested a nuclear bomb, we'd see the flash or detect the sesmic tremors. As for their stockpile, they've got less then ten at most unless they managed to run their reactor secretly, which is effectively impossible.

OK, then, we've been working on ABM since the 1950s, and have scored
SUCESSES dating back to the 1960s (gotta love nuclear tipped ABMs),
now tell me: why the fuck don't we have a working NMD system?

That said, it's time for Mr KJI to meet Mr B-61

Not only have they not tested any nuclear weapon, they don't have NEARLY the required delivery vehicles capable of making that threat anything except utterly full of crap.

I believe that the assertation that NK is making is that they supplied Pakistan with missile tech and Pakistan supplied them with Nuclear Tech. Which, one assumes, includes schematics on how to build one.

All that is left is to do some 'cold tests' to see whether their ignition system works, and there's your Nuke. Cold tests are just the tests on an inert object, just to see if you 'implosion' wiring of HE is working properly. There is no real war to detect it.

The rest is just the processing of spent Nuclear fuel, which requires complex machinary. Which the US was accusing NK of buying from Pakistan. Assuming that they have the processing equiptment, and that they have the design to produce a bomb, and that they have 'cold tested' their design and it is succesful, then they don't really need to actually carry out a live test.

Against the US you are correct. However against the South they have ample delivery systems. The Soviets fit a nuke the SCUD decades ago and the North can likely match that level of warhead design. Firing 50 or so Scud’s with bio chemical warheads at Seoul to expend all the Patriot ready rounds while also bombarding the city and its missile defenses with conventional artillery would be fucking bad. But when a nuke comes spiraling down a half hour later things get really fucking bad. And there’s nothing like artillery fire on the roads to keep away rescue workers, the yield of any device would be small enough that the vast majority of the city would be intact beyond its windows.

Does NK think that anyone actually believes them? I think that they have gotten themselves to the point that the international community just kind of says 'Yes, that's nice, now go back in your hole.'

So THAT's where Mohommed Sahaf has found work!

I keep seeing a mental picture of Kim Jong Il with a huge field set up with little plastic army men toys set up on it, and he strolls around with dirt clods, chucking them and making 'wheeeeeee-- POW!' explosion noises... then he jumps up and down, waving his fists in the air, saying,
"I kill many Yankee dog!"
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

IMO, I think Mr. Bush should let it be known that Pyongyang is full of shit, then declare war on NK just for the fucking hell of it!

And then we watch Seoul and Pusan be devastated and world economies thrown into chaos by their conventional artillery and chemical weapons. The south doesn’t have much in the way of nuclear deterrence, but they already have an effective force using their bio and chemical weapons and even long-range conventional artillery.

Look at it this way:

A man standing 5km away phones you and says:

"I have 1000 longbowmen with bows drawn next to me and ready to shoot you."

You look through your binoculars at how far away they are and say:

"And?"
