Australian Governor-General

Post by Mr Flibble »

For the last couple of weeks the Australian media has been full of the news that the Australia governor-general Peter Hollingworth covered up the actions of a pedophile priest when he was (Anglican) Archbishop of Brisbane. This led to a concerted effort to push im out of office, including from some senior ministers (for those non Aussies the Governor-General is effectively the Head of State). Then it was recently revealed that there were rape allegations made against him, although these seem to have been false. The G-G's response to this, by publicly revealing the details of the allegation, has caused some of those pushing for his resignation to back away, as they believe he has to quote The Advertiser "has won a degree of public sympathy by publicly confronting the allegations". Now I personally don't see how the rape allegeations change the situation, it is still a fact that whilst in a position of authority in the church he actively protected at least one pedophile, and yet we are supposed to support him as the nations Head of State, because he was falsly accused of rape.
He should never have been appointed Governor-General in the first place, with the confilict of interest placed on him as a bishop of the Anglican church (which the church attempted to use I should add be sending a petition to him requesting he refuse to sign into law cloning/stem cell resarch legislation, a move which would have caused a lot of problems, fortunately he ignored the petition) and now that it has been revealed that he was prepared to cover up the actions of pedophile priests he should without a doubt resign from the office of Governor-General

I think he should step down, but because of a) the conflict of interest and b) the covering up of allegations.

He's hasn't been that bad, but without a doubt we can go better.

And at this point, I will make the obligatory plug:

BOONIE FOR TASMANIAN GOVERNOR!

He should never have been made Governer General to begin with!

Although at the end of the day, I really couldn't care as he is nothing more than a ruber stamp. But it is embarissing that the Queen's repersentative is a reprehesible 'Man of God'. What were the odds?

Your GG has behaved in a dispicable manner, arguably he has behaved illegaly by being a accesory to a crime. He should resign

*obligitory Aussie bash*

Not that I am surprised that a Aussie public figure has behaved like this, just look at your history.

Sounds like our under-achieving cousins across the Tasman are a little cut about something.

Mainly cause they are not human female, but you should not assume we suscribe to your nations habits. Just cause you do it does not mean everyone else does.
