The Boondocks
Anyone like this comic strip?

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

I occasionally read it, and then realize again exactly why I don’t read it normally.
"This cult of special forces is as sensible as to form a Royal Corps of Tree Climbers and say that no soldier who does not wear its green hat with a bunch of oak leaves stuck in it should be expected to climb a tree"

I like Boondocks, but Doonsbury is much better.

A good comic it is, though Doonesbury is even better
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I like it, it's very stylized and well drawn, and once in a while, makes good social commentary. The current storyline is about the scandel of the black reporter who had lied or done something wholey unbecoming of a journalist. A lot of conservatives started trying to use that as a case against affirmative action and diversity in the workplace, yet none raise a finger at white privledge when a white reporter does the same.
It sometimes pokes fun at itself, which is always healthy. Today's for instance:
*hopes that will show up

Boondocks isn't bad. Sometimes it's really funny.
Doonebury's slipped badly over the years.
Bloom County was good.
Mallard Fillmore is spotty. The strips are either side-splitting satire or they're too hamfisted and preachy.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

It lasted for something like 15 years in its original form or its later Outland form. But it did not end badly.
In fact, the online comic people, those guys that send me boon docks in my email, are also re running Bloom County. I can't remember if it's ucomics or just comics .com, I'll chack back here later when I find out.

I was looking at some Bloom County books in my den. I find it interesting how some comics are tied very closely to the times they are in. It's not so funny reading it in 2003, but in the 80's it was very funny.
I suppose that is true of many forms of art. If you dont understand the context, the meaning can be entirely lost.

I like Boondocks; that kid can be too preachy but that's in character for him; he's the butt of the jokes often enough to let you know that he isn't the author's mouthpiece.
Doonsbury is kind of repeating itself, but that is a consequence of the material that it works with more than a shortcoming on Trudeau's (sp) part. But it's still good, usually funny and always relevant, which is about as good as you can get with a political cartoon.
