15 states isn't a great idea.

To make it work, you need a good federal system, something parliamentary, like Britain. I dunno, but doing it like the US ain't a good idea, thats for sure.

A world government would collapse and is not feasible in the first place. It's hard enough for relatively similar nations in Europe to agree on things. Throw the whole world together and nothing could be accomplished.

I think a world government with just 1 military and control over trade laws and the Internet and the like would do.

Of course, this government would be able to say

'Hey, Tai-wan, that pirate site there, shut it down'

Otherwise, not feasible at this time unless you wipe out 1/2 the planet or more

I don't really think it would be logictically possible in the long run, especially since no one would get along. People are stupid that way.

Possible, but requires large advances. Mostly in logistics. The 'everyone hates each other!' angle is true even within existing nations; all this is going to do is make each group larger. It's not possible without some big jumps in technology and knowledge, but definately possibel.

Start with economical unification... And try to work out the kinks, like Israelis and Palestinians killing each other.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely anywhere in the near future? No.

Cultural and ideological differences would make such a venture very difficult. Nation-states would still divide along much of the same lines as they are today. I think you'd end up with something like a UN that was either vastly ineffectual (more so than now) or one that is greatly overpowered.
No conscience. No law. No stopping them....

....well, maybe a Happy Meal would do it.

To make it work you need to conquer but be fair. Like Rome. Conquer the Barbarians then feed them wine. Soon every barbarian will want to be Roman. Just make sure you continue doing it, otherwise you collapse into shit like Rome did.

If some of the 3rd World Shitholes produce some charimastic leaders the numbers will shrink, but I doubt that.

Drug the entire planetary population into 'relaxation dude' so they all 'chill'

Spend the next 30 years putting reforms through and so forth (i.e new education)

Weaken the drug effect over the course of the next 40 years after.

By the time it wears off, everyone will be happy with the government, or the ones that won't be will be too old to do anything

nevermind world government.
getting any sort of regional agreement is hard enough as it is...i mean even the EU is split on alot of things, isn't it? and it's not even a sovereign grouping yet.

in any case, it's not going to work so long as the United States itself doesn't come around to the idea. and that won't work either because half the world is not going to have leaders that are agreeable to america leading this world governement
and america probably won't have anyone else lead it either........

The only type of government I see working for a one world system would be a totalitarian dictatorship. People are too dumb to put aside their differences long enough to work together. whomever the ruler is would have to have a clear line of succession as well, lest the world descend into civil war before finally breaking back into roughly pre-war divisions.

I don't see a world government happening...ever. Way too many people disagree about how a government should be run, let alone who runs it.

The only viable world government would be an incredibly powerful Empire with some vast advantage over all of the other nations. It's the stuff of sci-fi.

You are talking of the US perhaps
A world government is possible if people, nations, want it to work. I think that a world government will evolve gradually and will be of a federal nature.

-agrees with stuart-

the people involved will have to want it to happen - even our beloved superpower couldnt garrison the entire planet as it rebelled.

Humans are wired to be "Us vs Them" in their mentality. The entire earth won't be "us" until we find a new "them" to go against. IE, world peace only after we encounter an alien world to have a war with. :?
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster
