A Swedish soldier serving with NATO-led peacekeeping force in Kosovo (KFOR) was killed and another was injured on Saturday in an accidental blast in a military base, KFOR officials said.
"One soldier was immediately killed and another was severely injured when an explosive charge was detonated by mistake in a Swedish military base" in Avajlia, near the provincial capital Pristina, a spokesman for the Swedish troops told AFP.
Kosovo became a UN protectorate in 1999 after NATO forced Serbian forces controlled by then president Slobodan Milosevic to relinquish the ethnic-Albanian dominated province. Some 21,000 NATO soldiers serve with KFOR troops in Kosovo.
