More sabre-rattling from the Dear Leader? I'm not sure if that really qualifies as news.

They haven't actually finished the actual reprocessing process until now.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Hasn't North Korea claimed that they've "been able to make nukes" for like four or five years now?
If this is true, then apparently they can make working nuclear weapons now.

Seismic shock, radioactive trace materials which end up in the ambient environment. Underground nuke blasts aren't exactly concealable.TrailerParkJawa wrote:Do you think they would detonate one above ground so the world knew right away. yes, and they are only allowed to act in defense. My question is this. Does the Japanese constitution consider a hostile neighbor detonating a nuke, test firing missiles across the Japanese home islands and explicitly saying "i'm going to nuke you" sufficient grounds for use of it's armed forces? Or, do they actually have to be nuked for it to be allowed?Chardok wrote:I didn't think the Japanese were allowed to maintain a standing army, just a small defense force or something...or am I a moron?

The Japanese are making their defence force stronger and have threatened action before when NK said it would nuke anyone who defied it. I very much doubt MacArthur is in any position to disagree now with this sentiment and Dubya will likely turn a blind eye to any offensive build up.Col. Although the rather hawkish Shigeru Ishiba of the ministry of defence has scared some people with his radical views. Even after 60 years or so, many feel Japan shouldn't get a proper military.

Personally, i feel that Japan SHOULD have a proper military. They are a stable and wealthy nation in what is becoming a somewhat unstable part of the world. I think that Japan is a far diferent nation than it was 60 years ago and i don't feel the Japanese people would tolerate agressive militarism or a return to imperialism....they have too much to lose economically if that happens. Perhaps with that added responsibilty Japan could be granted equal footing on the UN Security Council with the "Big 5".Admiral Valdemar wrote:The Japanese are making their defence force stronger and have threatened action before when NK said it would nuke anyone who defied it. My brother is in the graduation class of a local University majoring in seismic geology and he says everything in the lab is pointed north with the professer 'eagerly' awaiting some kind of underground detonation so he can demonstrate parts of his lecture.Darth Wong wrote:A buried detonation could still theoretically be detected through seismographic means.TrailerParkJawa wrote:Do you think they would detonate one above ground so the world knew right away. Sorry for my poorly phrased question. I realize you can detect an underground detonation by such means. What I was getting at was did'nt the underground tests by Pakistan and Inda take us by surprise cause we did'nt even realize they were mounting such a test because the facilities were hidden.Patrick Degan wrote:Seismic shock, radioactive trace materials which end up in the ambient environment. I guess what Im trying to say it, would'nt we be able to see preparations for an above ground test, or in the case of an underground test, would'nt it take a few days to figure out if it was an earthquake instead of a bomb. Is there some difference that seperates them on a seismonitor?
An above ground test would be recognized within minutes by US sattelites would'nt it?

Impossible unless you can deploy some kind of sci-fi shield over the city of Seoul.Solauren wrote:I think it's time to start building a case (rather easy) to take out North Korea

Next best thing, get some AEGIS cruisers in the area and PAC3 Patriots or wait for Aster PAAMS to come into service.SirNitram wrote:Impossible unless you can deploy some kind of sci-fi shield over the city of Seoul.Solauren wrote:I think it's time to start building a case (rather easy) to take out North Korea

How are they against artillery fire? As I'm not sure NK actually has that many missiles.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Next best thing, get some AEGIS cruisers in the area and PAC3 Patriots or wait for Aster PAAMS to come into service.SirNitram wrote:Impossible unless you can deploy some kind of sci-fi shield over the city of Seoul.Solauren wrote:I think it's time to start building a case (rather easy) to take out North Korea
