*remembers flame wars on DU about this*

I've forgotten all the details of the case though
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Idiots and morons. Even if he is utterly innocent, making a hero out of someone who is depised amongst another country simply to make yourself feel superior merely invites well-deserved scorn and derision.

Did I mention that they morons?.

But is he despised by all in the U.S or is he a matter of controversy in the country? I don't know the guy, but from the news I'm thinking the latter.

I would wager that most people are not very familiar with his case. On the radical left (key word: radical) he's still a pretty big issue.

I had to do a google search just to figure out who Mumia is a while ago, because I saw someone with a "Free Mumia" shirt at school and I didn't know who the hell Mumia is and why he should be freed. I think the French are being morons, even if Mumia didn't kill anyone.

In any case, his death penalty sentence was thrown out, so they're kind of beating a dead horse.

Really. You'd think there would be a cut off date to when people stopped beating a subject, considering that I know for a fact that the people I know who want Mumia Abu-Jamal out of prison weren't even born when the events leading to his arrest happened.

Just to play Lucifer's Lawyer, Police in Ohio still say that Sam Sheppard was guilty and they did nothing wrong. Texas Police and Prosecutors still say no mistakes were made in the prosecution of Randel White. Police in New York still say the conviction of Hurricane Carter was clean and good.

there's always an element of doubt....

I'm sure Red will love this.
What a fucking load of shit. You want to protest the death penalty, fine. There's plenty of evidence there's huge problems with it. But Mumia is a shitbag who murdered a cop, and the radical left have made him their poster boy because he's an articulate former Black Panther. The case for his innocence is virtually nonexistant, yet he gets all the fucking attention from celebrity attention whores and mindless leftie radicals.

In the meantime, Ricky Ray Rector gets the needle and nobody says word one about it. States are routinely denying death row inmates access to potentially exonerating DNA evidence, and hardly anyone knows about it. Public defenders in Texas come to court drunk, and the Beastie Boys don't play their clients a Goddamn benefit concert. But Mumia gets international support, fawning celebrities, and all the money he needs to conduct all the appeals he wants, and special treatment by the courts because his case is so controversial. I repeat: it's a fucking load of shit.

Note we did find the evedence that exonerated the three I mentioned. And the police/prosecutor's office still insist that they feel the person was guilty. However I get all kinds of wierd vibes of that particular case...
