Obviously, sympathy is not their goal. Hussein liked to play for public relations, but these people are only interested in making the Americans' stay uncomfortable, using any means available to them.

They're doing that too. No one said it was admirable, but that's war. They have an objective in mind, and they're trying to use any means necessary to accomplish it. Moralistic war is a pleasant fiction.

Directly attacking the US military won't bring victory, and actually hitting a helicopter with an RPG is very hard, the Somali's fired hundreds of them you know. However attacking relief agencies will force them to scale back or cease operations completely, that makes life harder for the average citizen of the country, and hopefully from the resistance's point of view that will make them hate American forces, thus building up there power base.

But it's as likely to fail as not, most campaigns of such bombings fail completely and cause the population to favor the government even more, even if that government reacts very harshly. But since this is an occupied nation is hard to tell what would happen. However right now the majority clearly favor American forces or are natural on the matter, if they didn't then the situation would be many times worse and the US position would be untenable.

Time will tell.
