Inane reasoning

Post by Vympel »

Uh huh

So now the new Bush argument is that the *better* things get in Iraq, the *worse* tthe attacks will get, because the terrorists are getting "desperate".

So ... does that mean that if there's less attacks, things are actually getting ... worse?

Or, as candidate Kerry said: "Does the president really believe that suicide bombers are willing to strap explosives to their bodies because we're restoring electricity and creating jobs for Iraqis?"

It's not totally inane. A fair number of them are the suicidal Islamic stripe of terrorists and naturally would be worried at the US making any sort of progress. They want misery and resentment towards the US so that they can put themselves in power.

I honestly don't see the flaw in the reasoning.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

It's one thing to say that an increase in terrorist attacks doesn't necessarily mean things are getting worse, but to actually go all the way and say that it means things are getting better is just bizarre reasoning.

Actually you have that slightly backwards. Bush is saying that as things are getting better and as a consequences the terrorists are getting more desperate and hence escelating their attacks. He's not arguing that because there are more attacks it means things are getting better.
