Supremes continue the circle jerking....

Supreme court did it's usual MO, turn down any politically charged case
at all, to avoid taking a hard decision.
WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court disappointed gun rights groups Monday by refusing to consider whether the Constitution guarantees people a personal right to own a gun.

The court has never said if the right to "keep and bear arms" applies to individuals.

Although the Bush administration has endorsed individual gun- ownership rights, it did not encourage the justices to resolve the issue in this case, involving a challenge of California laws banning high-powered weapons.

Many other groups wanted the court to take the politically charged case, including the National Rife Association, the Pink Pistols, a group of gay and lesbian gun owners; the Second Amendment Sisters; Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws; and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.

That being said, I wish the Supremes would quit dicking around with the issues and make a statement on it. Like you said, they turn down anything politically charged, but whether it's too hard to make a decision or they're afraid of pissing people off, I don't know.

I hate it when they do that. I mean, come on, what the hell are they there for anyway?

Either they are afraid of being labeled as an activist judgery, or whatnot.

It'll be interesting when (if) they do. There's a massive amount of SC dicta stating that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right. If they decide to go another way, they'll have to do some fancy tapdancing.

Plus there's the fact of the framers intent, which can be seen through their various secondary writings. It is clear that they intended for an individual right to bear arms.

Nope, it's a group of gays who decided not to be victims. They are rapidly gaining power and prestige in the 2nd Amendment community, as well as changing minds on how a lot of people see gays.

By the way, they actually make pink pistols, but I don't think these guys (and gals) go for them. It's hard to accessorize them.

The Supremes may not be sure how the vote will come down. They may also know that the vote will be either way sometghing like 4 to 3 which the court hates. They hate to seem divided particualrly if it is along party lines. So they may be avoiding this issue for the fact that the court is as divided as the general population on this issue.

The Supremes try to be careful about their public image. And a 4 to 3 ruling do not settle issues of law, it just invites more appeals as the perception that the court is divided on this issue means the law itself is not settled which is what the court would like to project.

It still sounds like a gay re-enactment of the Sex Pistols :)

And I know people where a pink pistol would be the least flashy thing they're wearing

I'm all for any ruling that will allow me to own whatever guns I want but will prevent anyone else from doing so.

Enjoy your guns; soon I'll be the only one with ammunition, and howitzers.
