Microsoft ending free email?
Has anyone got a link to this story?
I saw a story on this on the news, felt appalled, then thought I'd come here to spread the disgust. Yet I can't find the story.
From what I know, Microsoft and Yahoo! are apparently thinking of ending free email services to curb spammage.

That means hotmail, right? Crap, I've had my hotmail account for over three years -_-
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

What concerns me is that none of the ISP's I know of are compatible with MSN Messenger.

It didn't work when I had iPrimus.Sharp-kun wrote:All e-mail addresses are compatable.Gandalf wrote:What concerns me is that none of the ISP's I know of are compatible with MSN Messenger.
The only thing you might not get is the instant notification, though you can mod it to check POP3 accounts

Probably just a glitch. I use a hotmail account, and my Uni account for MSN.Gandalf wrote:It didn't work when I had iPrimus.Sharp-kun wrote:All e-mail addresses are compatable.Gandalf wrote:What concerns me is that none of the ISP's I know of are compatible with MSN Messenger.

I think it's all the common free-mail services since they're the number source of spam.salm wrote:who cares? hotmail is the worst piece of free shitmail available anyway.
I've mixed feelings since I'd dearly love to see the tons of spam I get from them disappear. I have several reliable e-mails but I'd loose contact with a couple of friends on the other hand.

Shame, I've grown quite partial to my free email account, convenience more than anything else, as I do have the MR one, a yahoo one I don't use and at least 2 university ones at the minute... alas poor hotmail...

I almost never get spam, and I employ no spam blockers either. Want to know my secret? Easy! My e-mail address is never made public anywhere, so I never get e-mail from people that I don't give it to! WOW! Its not that hard.Shaidar Haran wrote:I think it's all the common free-mail services since they're the number source of spam.salm wrote:who cares? hotmail is the worst piece of free shitmail available anyway.

Someone else has sense. My main account is hotmail, the blocker is turned off, and I get at most 2 spam mails a week, usually none.Rogue 9 wrote:I almost never get spam, and I employ no spam blockers either. And neither are mine. That doesn't prevent me from getting plenty of spam, most of which is sent from various free-mail providers.Rogue 9 wrote:I almost never get spam, and I employ no spam blockers either. Sounds like bullshit.Sharp-kun wrote:As far as I'm aware, the plan isn't to stop ending free services, but to introduce a small charge for every e-mail sent. For most people it will be negligable, but for spammers will be nasty.
There's been a lot of urban legends with this premise floating about.

Didn't say much else, just that MS and Yahoo were looking into the possibility.

It most likely IS bullshit, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't go through with it. Free e-mail is a blight.Keevan_Colton wrote:Sounds like bullshit.

I was refering to that complete horseshit about a charge per mail. Internet postage charges? There's been at least a dozen bullshit stories about that before.Lagmonster wrote:It most likely IS bullshit, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't go through with it. microsoft and yahoo will have lots of upset users if they go through this. most notably us poor schmucks with limited income that are forced to leach off of free monthly trials for internet access.
