Drunken dad asks 11 year old Son to Drive

Post by General Zod »

Reuters Linky
Reuters.Com wrote:DALLAS (Reuters) - A Texas man did the drinking and decided to let his 11-year-old son, who was barely able to see over the steering wheel, do the driving, police said.
Police said on Wednesday they had arrested Robert Lee Crider on charges of child endangerment, public intoxication and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Crider's son was pulled over by a Texas state trooper outside of the west Texas town of Big Spring in the predawn hours of Saturday after the officer saw the car speeding and weaving through traffic, said Sgt. Jason Hester, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Crider apparently was taking his son home for the weekend as a part of a custody arrangement with his ex-wife. Crider and a friend stopped off at a bar with the boy, and when the two adults became too drunk to drive, they handed the keys of the rental car over to the boy.

The boy was pulled over just as the group started on a trip of some 200 miles to Crider's home. They had passed several motels before they were stopped by the trooper, Hester said.

Police fed the boy a grilled cheese sandwich, found a mattress for him to sleep on and called his mother, who picked him up and drove him back to her home.
the idiocy is overwhelming. . . .but it's in texas so not too surprising.

What's the difference between driving drunk and letting a 11 year old kid to drive?

Hmmmm, the 11 year old would be able to react in the wrong way quicker than the drunk dad? :?

Something tells me the father won't have to worry about custody of his child in the future...

Up the age to 14 or so and I'd give the father a pat on the back for having a brain.

But 11? Not so sure.

Perhaps it would have been best if he decided not to get piss drunk if he knew that nobody able to drive would bring him home.

Sounds like a darwin award waiting to happen. A very apt darwin as the father would not only remove himself but his genetic material from the gene pool. Fucking tragic that stupidity like this exists.

It's stupid to get drunk at any time, never mind when you're with your kid. What the fuck was he taking his kid to a bar for? What kind of asshole drags his kid to a bar and gets drunk there?

Obviously the kind were talking about here

And speaking about dads who take thei kids at the bar.

Little Johnny is sent to call his daddy home from the bar. When he enters, his dad asks the bartender for another dry scotch and hands it to the kid demanding him to drink it. Little Johnny driks and starts to make grimaces. The father tell him: "Do you like it?"

"No, it's awfull!"

"Then go home and tell your mother that I'm not here for fun."

What about us teens who study and/or work really hard all week then just want to have one night out on the town and get totally pissed, and don't cause a single little problem for ourselves or anybody else? I think you're totally over-generalising there, sorry.

why would they need to get drunk period? you don't gain any substantial benefits from it. casual drinking, no problem. but drunk? there should never be any justification for it.

 so it's fun to get smashed despite the fact that it fucks with your health eventually and can lead to wreckless endangerment through lack of control?

By the way, I just thought I should expand on my last post...

If alcohol hurt me, that's my own dumb fucking fault, boo hoo. If alcohol led me to lose self control, that's also my own dumb fucking fault, and would result in me having the crap kicked out of me by very large club bouncers. So, no harm, no fowl.

Just 'cause something's fun, doesn't mean that it isn't also dumb. Noone's saying that you don't have the right to do dumb things. And anyhow, getting drunk is fun because it's dumb.

Personally I dislike when someone drinks until he looses control. 12 years of linving in hostels showed me the ugly side of drunk people and nothing can change it.

Hmm, I drove for the first time when I was 13-14. I was supervised though. In this case two drunks are hardly supervision. I wonder how well that kid drives. :) Maybe he's a future formula driver.

If you need to be drunk in order to loosen your inhibitions enough to have fun, then you have problems.
