But, it's a risk (albeit a horrible one) that is taken in urban warfare. Definitely a terrible thing, but not entirely unexpected either.

When it takes place in a territory where you control the taxation and water supply, the word "warfare" does not apply. You don't use the tactics of war in your own territory. But Israel has been getting away with having its cake and eating it too (treating the territories as property for the purpose of settlement, collection of taxes, control of major governmental functions, etc. while simultaneously treating them like a foreign country by declaring war on it, treating dead civilians as mere "collateral damage", etc) for years.

But yes, Hamas is already pledging a new wave of bloodshed and violence. Really besides the symbolic gesture it would have been to many Israeli's, I suspect this guy was nothing more than a figure head at this point, leaving the day to day stuff to lieutenants.

But now he is a martyr.

Israel is one of the state I least like, and this again proves why.

The guy was a terrorist and proud of it, people like him don't deserve to live. However, blowing him up (never minding the other casualities) only makes the situation worse.

Meh, Isreal is hardly shinney and perfect. But numb nuts Hammas is not above them on the nice list either. I question Isreal's decision to take out a point target with an area weapon but they've done it for years and I've questioned it for years.

That said, I can't shed a tear for Sheik Ahmed Yassin. He was a waste of flesh and a waste of oxyegen. I would have prefered a 7.62 or a .50cal to the head so that there was no collateral damage but the guy deserved to be killed for his crimes.
