Richard Clarke dominates the 9/11 Commission

Post by BoredShirtless »

The former Terrorist Czar testified yesterday before the 9/11 Commission. A couple of things:
1. He got three ovations
2. His opening statement included an apology [on behalf of him and the government] to the victim's families of 9/11
3. His answers and the praise put on him by some of the panel made it VERY clear that Clarke was VERY competent in his job. In fact the current Deputy Chief of Staff in HIS testimony defended Clarke and trashed the idiotic accusations that 9/11 was the previous Administrations fault just because they were there longer....as if the Clinton Administration was just sitting there with its thumb up its ass while Al Queda grew and grew.

The obvious but apparently forgotten bottom line is Clarke and his department worked within the framework created by the intelligence in front of them:
1. He was very critical of the FBI, less critical of the CIA.
2. He requested covert operations in Afghanistan after the USS Cole, but was denied.
3. He tried to get numerous actions NOW in place [armed Predator drones is one example] in Jan of 2001 to the Presidents attention, but was told it had to go through the Principals [a very lengthy process which finished 4/11] first. Why go directly to the President? Because the intelligence the government had in Jan 2001 suggested Al Queda was about to strike.

Basically, Richard Clarke kicked so much ass in his testimony that he had one of the panel members thanking him very profusely for testifying. Another member asked him if he would make himself available for further Commissions when the time comes to brainstorm how to improve the way the government inter-communicates.

He kicked ass and took names

Guess the White House is preparing a counter attack
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

If it's anything like their previous exceedingly lame efforts to assault his character and ... well, that's it, really, I don't see what effect this 'counter attack' could possibly do. He fucked them. Badly.

The story so far

Of all the players on team bush, it's condi rice who looks the absolute fucking worst.

And then there's yet more evidence of Fox News being the propaganda arm of the White House

Dude, registration required. BTW, one of the panel members slammed Fox News during Clarke's testimony....he got an ovation, possibly standing. Who the fuck would pay attention to Fox anymore anyway? How many times has Fox been exposed like this?

This is shaping up to be an unmitigated political catastrophe for the Bush administration. Security is the one issue where the Republicans have an undisputed advantage over the Democrats, and if the public decides the administration's own incompetence allowed 911 to happen, that advantage evaporates.

One of the commission members is the lead trial attorney on our case and I should get the lowdown on the hearings on Saturday when he gets back into Philly. He told me abouit Clarke and his book a few weeks ago and how the White House was intentionally leaking some of the more damning stuff early to defuse some of it, but he predicted that Clarke would assrape the Bush administration and so far he's absolutely right.

Pathetic, isn't it? Condi has done nothing more than throw slogans and soundbites at the press. She's like goddamn Goebbels, yet the Fox News addicts are fawning over this woman. What Rice does amounts to jack and shit, anyway.

BREAKING SPECIAL REPORT FROM 9-11 HEARINGS

DOJ Asked FBI Translator To Change Pre 9-11 Intercepts

by Tom Flocco

Washington, DC -- March 24, 2004 --12:15 EST -- FBI translator, Sibel Edmonds, was offered a substantial raise and a full time job in order to not go public that she had been asked by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to retranslate and adjust the translations of [terrorist] subject intercepts that had been received before September 11, 2001 by the FBI and CIA.

Edmonds, a ten year U.S. citizen who has passed a polygraph examination, speaks fluent Farsi and Turkish and had been working part time with the FBI for six months-- commencing in December, 2001.

In a 50 reporter frenzy in front of some 12 news cameras, Edmonds said "Attorney General John Ashcroft told me 'he was invoking State Secret Privilege and National Security' when I told the FBI I wanted to go public with what I had translated from the pre 9-11 intercepts."

"I appeared once on CBS 60 Minutes but I have been silenced by Mr. Ashcroft, the FBI follows me, and I was threatened with jail in 2002 if I went public," Edmonds told tomflocco.com.

When we asked her if it was really true that she had been bribed by the FBI and DOJ, Edmonds said "You can interpret it as that."

This writer personally asked Edmonds where the term "State Secret Privilege" was derived. "The term came from an October 18, 2002 DOJ memo to me from DOJ spokesman Barbara Comstock," said Edmonds.

Edmonds said "My translations of the pre 9-11 intercepts included [terrorist] money laundering, detailed and date specific information enough to alert the American people, and other issues dating back to 1999 which I won't go into right now."

Incredibly, Edmonds said "The senate Judiciary Committee, and the 911 Commission have heard me testify for lengthy periods of time time (3 hours) about very specific plots, dates, airplanes used as weapons, and specific individuals and activities."

This explosive information has been kept under wraps by the White House, CIA, FBI, and DOJ since Edmond's 60 Minutes interview segment.

The former FBI translator told tomflocco.com that "translators before me had ongoing personal relationships with the subjects or targets of the FBI and DOJ pre 9-11 investigations linked to intercepts and other intelligence in June - July - August, just prior to the attacks."

"I also became aware of a [terrorist] criminal investigation going on since 1998," said Edmonds.

Patty Casazza, one of the 9-11 "Jersey Girls," said "Sibel Edmonds told me that color coding terrorist threat alerts for the American people is reflective of the intercept translations received." Casazza and Edmonds gave no indication as to whether FBI translators had doctored or adjusted Homeland Security terrorist threat alerts for political reasons.

"This whole situation is outrageous and I am going public," said Edmonds, adding "I am currently being advised by counsel. Thank you."

9-11 family member, Jersey Girl, Kristen Breitweiser, arranged to have Ms. Edmonds address the gathered media right after the Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet testified.
