this is what happens when you let pop culture do the thinking for you.

try thinking before you post. thinking for himself is something the guy in the article didn't exactly seem to do.

I realize that, but at least something that made him think to turn himself in came along. He could have gotten away with it indefinitely otherwise.

and nowhere did i say that was a bad thing. i was merely commenting that the guy obviously didn't seem to think on his own a whole lot.

Guilt is a wonderful thing, and if it takes a movie to overwhelm the guy with his Guilt, then more power to the Movie.

Bah, the movie still directly took a life. :P

Two, actually. A Brazilian preacher died while watching it a couple days ago.

But was the movie the direct cause of death, is the question. I'm sure people have had heart attacks while watching other movies too.

Well it looks like The Passion is still a net loss-of-life movie. :)

That is just... sick, how he killed her. Using her trust in him to allow him to kill her... disgusting. I don't care why he turned himself in, he needs his ass fried.

Personally, I am more concerned about the fact that he got his ideas for the original murder from a TV show than I am about being driven to confession by a movie. It is much less for a movie to make someone ask questions about themself than it is to drive someone to kill through a TV show.

Again, prove it was the cause of death, rather than the movie theater merely being the place of death.

Damn, this is so fucked up. I hope that he spends a long and fruitless life stuck behind bars, the shitarse son of a bitch! "I watched the Passion and now I want redemption!" Rightoh, good for you.

Bizarre to say the least, for him to virtually get away with it then confess.

Guilt is a powerful thing. You wouldn't believe the lengths some people will go to if they think it will help them atone for a perceived wrong.

Just remember: you have brought this upon yourself with your asinine refusal to take a joke in good humour:

In case you hadn't noticed, this film has no guilt-trip effect whatsoever on people who don't believe in salvation through Jesus Christ. Ergo, our murderous little friend was driven to confess after watching this film not because of the power of the film, but because it interacted with the power of his upbringing in the Christian faith. The same faith which failed to prevent him from committing this heinous murder in the first place!

In fact, the motive for the killing was to extricate himself from an out-of-wedlock parenthood situation, as per the original article:
"That was his motive for killing her," he said. "It was because she was pregnant and he was embarrassed of it and he wanted her totally out of his life."
Indeed, not only did it fail to stop him from committing this crime, but the same faith which led him to confess might have motivated him to commit the crime in the first place. Christianity does not have a long history of warm feelings toward "illegitimate" childbirths.

Actually, Wong, his 'religious upbringing' might not have had anything to do with it. Some men just don't want to be a parent, legit or otherwise.

Did anyone else notice the part where an autopsy determined that she wasn't even pregnant after all?
