yeah let see if they could...

find and track the countless Analog Tape Recorders.

try to develop technology that could keep me from taping from audio source using microphones or headphones.

or try to keep people from recording the songs with a mic.

Are they on fucking crack! They've had the same fears the first time tape recorders came out. Did they somehow forget that it did not harm their precious sales then? Fuck it, the RIAA has to go.

Have a very nice day.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) says radio taping could become an even bigger problem than Internet downloading and file-swapping once radio stations complete their now-embryonic shift to digital transmission.
Exactly how does broardcasting over the FREE TO AIR airwaves in Digital instead of analogue make it ANY DIFFERENT AT ALL to someone wanting to tape record the music??!!!?? I mean the act of putting a tape into ya cassette recorder and pressing record is still exactly the same! weather or not the broardcast is coming from a digital machine that broardcasts freely on radio frequencys or an analogue machine that broardcasts freely on radio frequencys. :wtf:

Ahh but if its digital, they can encode it in such a way that a chip in all new digital audio cassette recorders will recognize and garble the music. Duh. :P

I'd love to see them burst into my house and try to take away my microphone. My dad's a lawyer, I'll have their asses in court before they can come up with a half-assed excuse.

You should even be able to make lossless digital copies. Just get a digital FM radio with an S/PDIF output. That's pure 44.1kHz 16-bit un-encoded datastream. Pipe it to a PC and save it to WAV data and you're good to go. Unless they decide to outlaw S/PDIF digital connections too

Better yet, they could simply push to have the FCC outlaw music while they're at it.

But without media to control they lose power. Therefore they would have to just plant computers in everyone's minds to delete the memory of a song after you heard it.

You know that's what they're working on in their secret FCC/RIAA labs.

The RIAA is almost damned near getting legislation that prevents people from listening to music that they're not liscensed to listen to.

Maybe this was explained and I was just not reading carefully due to my face looking something like:  but, how are they even going to know if you're recording?

okay. . .so they're worried it might become a problem. Whose been slipping these assclowns LSD in their food? I'd be curious to see a study showing exactly how many people actually do record from the radio using digital copies. Chances are it's comparatively minor.

Ten bucks says that they have an upcoming scheme that would require you to pay royalties to sing along to a copyrighted song playing on the radio.

As for this, they're probably concerned about money, because people recording copyrighted music from the radio must cost them up to $12.50 a year in sales!(/sarcasm)

They don't need to worry about this as it'll still be commercial radio.

In other words, the 'personalities' will continue to talk over the beginning and the end of each song.

What they should be worrying about is the digital quality audio only channels both the satellite providers and cable operators (with digital cable) offer.

Why not? Are you aware that their aren't any DVD-Audio/SACD players with S/PDIF outs? Currently, they all connect through a ridiculous six analog cable system and the future uses a proprietary connector (based off of Firewire IIRC) to transmit a scrambled digital signal to prevent recording.

So they're going to abandon PC music playback, then?
