Is it possible to build a new political party in Canada?
Centered around essentially being an anti Bloc Quebecois, and
calling for the total annihilation of Quebec's bullshit, English as the
single language for canada, the elimination of all the gravy train
bullshit for Quebec.....
How electable do you think such a party would be?

It's possible to build a new political party in Canada. The Reform Party is a relitively recent party, I can't remember what they changed their name too. I think that a party with that platform would be popular in Western Canada where anti-Quebec sentiment is high, but I doubt that they would ever win a majority. The outcry from Quebec would also be loud and severe. The new party would be accused of being racist etc.MKSheppard wrote:Centered around essentially being an anti Bloc Quebecois, and

You'd never be able to eliminate French from the official language list, the Quebecers hold too much power in parliment to allow it to happen. The same with eliminating the gravy train. It doesn't help that most of our PM's are actually from Quebec, or are of French ancestery.

I also gather that Quebec is not very popular outside of oh, Quebec.Cpl Kendall wrote:I think that a party with that platform would be popular in Western Canada where anti-Quebec sentiment is high
By my math, the Bloc Quebecois only controls 17% of the parlimentaryYou'd never be able to eliminate French from the official language list, the Quebecers hold too much power in parliment to allow it to happen.
votes; I'd gather a "fuck quebec" resolution if drafted right would
be virtually undefeatable.

A lot of Canadians try hard to be tolerant and understanding of minorities (even to the point of letting them get away with shit such as the Bloc Quebecois), and the Quebeckers are a minority. It would fly in Alberta, but not in most of Canada. Sure, you'd get some people who wholeheartedly support such action, but I don't think you could ever actually get elected.
What's more likely (albeit still unlikely) is a non-Quebec politician getting elected on a fiscal conservatism platform and cutting back on Quebec's over-generous transfer payments or the various federal programs which exist only for the furtherance of Quebec interests, using a "pork barrel" or "cost-cutting" rationale.

How is standing up against a political ideology (grab as much money as posible for my home province, screw the rest) intolerant of a minority group? Bloc Quebecois is merely a political entity is it not? How is bashing them any different from bashing Greens or Conservatives or Fascists?Darth Wong wrote:A lot of Canadians try hard to be tolerant and understanding of minorities (even to the point of letting them get away with shit), and the Quebeckers are a minority. You've more or less described our old Reform Party. It was quite successful in our prairie provinces but I don't believe they got any seats east of Manitoba.MKSheppard wrote:Centered around essentially being an anti Bloc Quebecois, and

Bashing Bloc Quebecois is easy at first, but as a campaign drags on the media will make you out to be racially intolerant for doing it. Even though French-speakers aren't a race at all, they'll still do it.Col. Thats stupid. One of the things that i think gives Quebec (and Montral in particular) its charm is the fact that you have such a diverse population awash in French culture in North America. How can it be portrayed as a racial issue when these Quebeckers are everything from Albanian to Zulu?Darth Wong wrote:Bashing Bloc Quebecois is easy at first, but as a campaign drags on the media will make you out to be racially intolerant for doing it.
