ATF: 200 Pounds Of Explosives Stolen From Storage Facility Explosives Discovered Missing Over Holiday Weekend

POSTED: 10:35 pm PDT July 6, 2004 UPDATED: 10:49 pm PDT July 6, 2004 SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Approximately 200 pounds of high explosives have reportedly been stolen from a storage facility in San Mateo County, and federal officials Tuesday said they're reluctant to reveal details of their ongoing investigation into the theft.

The theft occurred in the vicinity of Crystal Springs and was discovered over the holiday weekend, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

A number of agencies share use of the storage facility, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the San Francisco Police Department and the San Mateo County sheriff's office, said bureau spokeswoman Marti McKee.

All of the agencies are participating in the ATF investigation that was launched Tuesday morning to try and locate the stolen explosives, McKee said.

John Torres, special agent in charge of the ATF investigation, said that recovering the explosives is "absolutely a top priority" for the bureau.

"ATF will employ all the resources available to us to track down these stolen explosives, return the explosives to safe storage, and find those responsible for the theft," Torres said.

In general, McKee said, high explosives like dynamite require detonation, whereas lower explosives like pipe bombs typically go off after being ignited.

The bureau is requesting that anyone with relevant information contact their local police departments or call (888) ATF-TIPS.

Pretty easy to do, apparently.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Now if it was you or me who lost this HE, our asses would be grass,
and we'd be viciously torn into by the media for losing all that HE,
and portrayed as incompetents, for the cheeeldren.

but the same people who rant about how we need to have gun locks
to protect the cheeeeeeldren from guns in homes, are curiously silent
on this missing 200 pounds of HE, as well as the several hundred guns
the FBI is missing from it's internal audit.

It's only high explosives, it's not like they lost a suitcase nuke or anything...

Er, I don't think there are even any "suitcase nukes" left anymore... and if it were a vintage model, it would certainly have expired by now.

The area the explosives were stored in is fairly easy to penetrate since there is no public access to most of the resevoir area, meaning nobody will notice you going in and out. The magazines are not guarded 24/7 which is probably a bad thing over all.

According to one Fox News report I watched back in 2001 several of the Russian suitcase nuclear weapons are missing.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Local radio news reports indicate that a van was found in Union City with explosives inside. Hehe, I went to high school in Union City. :)
Anyway, they are saying someone tipped off the cops and now they are evacuating the surrounding area.

Oh No! It's Confederate Guerillas! We all know how much they hate the Union! THE SOUTH IS RISING AGAIN!!!

Anyhow, I'm glad they found the explosives, at least we now know that terrorists don't have them. And by terrorists I mean lonely, horny white guys living in shacks in forests :D

By now they're almost certainly worthless as nuclear weapons.

Anyone here capable of shelling out fare to NYC? Or even better, let's go on a SD.NET road trip, picking up board members as we make our way to NYC and the Doc.

So THAT'S where that moron of a hick police chief got his claims from. I have been wondering what Tom Clancy novel or wacky conspiracy theorist magazine he'd seen it, but it turns out to be good ol' Fox News this entire time.

But I'm sure he had enough imagination to make up the "terrorists would use their suitcase nuke to destroy a small town (pop 4500 or so) country music festival (bringing in about 5000 people and maybe Zell Miller if he's really bored and in the area)" part on his own.

Please don't ask about what I'm talking about.
