I, Democrat (this time)

This pretty much sums up my way of thinking on the election too...

I, Democrat (this time)
Creepo wrote:Last time I was an apathetic voter who tended to register my "protest" vote with whichever third party mirrored my ideals most closely. The difference between the cardboard cutout that was Gore and whoever this Bush Jr. guy was... it wasn't enough to get me excited either way. I really, at that point, didn't see a big difference between the corporate ass puppets that made up either side. I liked the term Republicrats. Laws were bought and sold. We were merely to be happy with our TVs and beer and not to start any revolutions.

Well, in the last four years I have watched this slow motion car accident called the Bush adminstration do more damage than I thought possible by a president and his crew. Bush has done more to define the Democratic party than I think they ever could have done themselves... They are the party that... won't be like Bush... and that, right now, is all I want. I have had more political debates at work and in other situations this year than I have ever had. I am more politically aware and passionate than ever. And I have Bush to thank. Previously, I thought the President was primarily a figurehead. Our government was so twisted around in miles of its own tape that I thought we spun in slow circles regardless of who I voted for.

But I will always remember how Bush pushed his war... and how I, and others, knew it was wrong, it was hurried, it was misleading... That something wasn't right. I do believe he wanted this war and used "Terror" as an excuse. I could go on and on... but you know the arguements. And I am decided this way. So don't bother. Add on top of that the bone he threw to get votes from his asshat homophobe religious right friends regarding a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage... and his wake of destruction regarding our foreign policy... his breaking of alliances.. his pulling out of environmental agreements... I just can't understand how someone can smile and slap a Bush sticker on their car. Unless they are single issue pro-life voters - who his party depends on. They give lip service to the cause and know that the religious right won't question anything else as long as they take the pro-life stance...

The whole thing is just infuriating to me. I think Bush uses fear as a tool and is an insincere, arrogant prick with one primary purpose... to keep the corporations and Saudis happy. I think Michael Moore is a hero... and I get lots of shit about all of this because I speak up to the young republicans I work with. They are great guys to work with, but I really don't understand how a thinking person can be a republican. I really don't. Or a democrat for that matter... at least not consistently. I think the dems are also playing on the desire to have anybody but Bush... and I will be just as critical of them in 2008... But this time, just to stop the bleeding, I am a democrat. Nader needs to honorably take the sword this time. Go John Kerry!

I agree. All the things Bush has done has woken up people who never cared before. It's amazng that many people still support Bush.
