Is this an accurate "political spectrum"
I'm trying to find a good one to show a friend of mine, because he just doesn't get it when I try to describe it to him. This is the best one I've found so far...
I'll take heat for it, but I think the difference is the ideal of oppertunity other than the reality.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

A person can believe in both Civil and Property Rights- they're not mutually exclusive, as your chart implies. This is the case for several of the points.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

The chart doesn't look like it's saying they're mutually exclusive, just that saying that one takes precidence over the other (property over civil or vice versa) puts someone on one side of the spectrum or the other.BlkbrryTheGreat wrote:A person can believe in both Civil and Property Rights- they're not mutually exclusive, as your chart implies. Look at the furor concerning Gay Marriage. While those with a bit of logic induced prescience can see the avalanche that this pebble of an issue can cause, a lot of conservatives don't. All they see is "Clinton's cock! Clinton's cock!"BlkbrryTheGreat wrote: What type of an idiot has a preference on the type of right they want violated?
Try this quiz. I couldnt get the picture, but the test will place you on a 2-D political spectrum that I find very useful. The commentary on the different areas is pretty biased towards libertarianism, but its worth a look-see.

That's not a very good quiz. Its primary purpose is to recruit people to libertarianism.Bugsby wrote:Try this quiz. You're a fucking idiot. The statement implied "by the Government", as neither "group" supports crime.Durandal wrote:Rape victims who were coerced at gun- or knife-point.BlkbrryTheGreat wrote:What type of an idiot has a preference on the type of right they want violated?

I like the concept of the chart, but the quiz needs to be a lot longer.Iceberg wrote:That's not a very good quiz. Um, you miss the point, which is that the questions of the quiz are written leadingly and are designed to tilt the quizzee toward the Libertarian Party.RedImperator wrote:I like the concept of the chart, but the quiz needs to be a lot longer.Iceberg wrote:That's not a very good quiz. Both the chart (in the OP) and the quiz are oversimplified, and the quiz, in addition, seems to have a serious bias toward libertarianism. The chart, atleast, is open towards interpretation, and is simply presented in a format in which it would be difficult to actually give specifics.

The more radical form of it, the complete anti-determinist form, would, but there are less radical material areas were this statement holds water.Prozac the Robert wrote:"Nuture is the primary arbiter of advancement". Would people really class this as an ultra radical liberal statement?

I tend to agree with Iceberg on this. I still have modestly libertarian leanings but the quiz is ridiculously biased.Iceberg wrote:Um, you miss the point, which is that the questions of the quiz are written leadingly and are designed to tilt the quizzee toward the Libertarian Party.RedImperator wrote:I like the concept of the chart, but the quiz needs to be a lot longer.Iceberg wrote: That's not a very good quiz. I don't see why "prefers heterogeneous population" is so close to "prefers maximum state control over the individual".

I'm not entirely sure why this thing has ethics and morality as distinct concepts from one another, since they are pretty much the same thing. Not all morality is religious in nature.
