I mean look at when we buy stuff from inside the EU or US(+NAFTA), it's easy and there's no extra import tax, but lets say you need to buy a $35 lamp housing for your car but can only find it in the US, well then you have to pay all these extra taxes and you got to deal with all this customs shit, phooey.
Wouldn't it be a real boom for trading if items could be shipped without extra tax between the US and EU?
Or is it just not realistic?
You think the US and EU should help free trading?

IMHO, there should be a minimal tax at least on traded goods, to takeHis Divine Shadow wrote:Wouldn't it be a real boom for trading if items could be shipped without extra tax between the US and EU?
in money and provide encouragement for local industry; however,
don't let it become fucking excessive, then you're only hurting yourself.

Shep:
Sound excessive to you? Had I bought it within the EU it would have been like buying it locally, only thing I would have had to pay was shipping.
Maybe I'm just pissed, but I want cheap stuff FFS.
Let me tell you this was me, I bought those lamp housings and the customs stopped the shipment and phoned me and told me I had to come pick it up, this was in Åbo(Turku for native finns), this was like 4-500km south, clearly impossible so they would send it to the local customs office, only 70km away, joy! where I had to pay the extra import tax + 30 euros for having the customs ship my package to the local office. His Divine Shadow wrote:lets say you need to buy a $35 lamp housing for your car but can only find it in the US, well then you have to pay all these extra taxes and you got to deal with all this customs

I have no problem with idea, but I imagine it would lead to a lot of caterwauling from industry and labor on both sides of the pond, so I doubt it will happen any time soon.
