Bush's European poll numbers

Post by Stravo »

On Fox, O'Reilly just showed a series of European nations and their feelings on Bush vs. Kerry and Bush can't get over 10% favorability rating in most nations and the only nation that has Bush over Kerry is Poland.

Bush's favorability Rating
Britain: 6%
France: 8%
Netherlands: 6%
Italy: 15%
Germany: 10%
Poland: 32% (Kerry at 28%)

O'Reilly blames the "anti-American sentiment in European media"

The guy he interviews says "Europeans generally seperate America and Americans from Bush. They are reacting to Bush and his foreign policy."

O'Reilly smirks, rolls eyes, his usual handwaving then goes to say "You know Europe is becoming more secular and they don't like the overtly religious Bush."

C'mon O'Reilly - no spin zone indeed.

Yes, O'reilly is from Europe and knows better than everyone else. Its all about the religious shit.

Tell me, dispite rightfully disapproving, when was the last time the Europeans threw HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MEN protests over our overly religious character?

I have a feeling O'Reilly would be stunned if he ever actually spoke to average German people on the street ... and then he would invent some pathetic flimsy rationalization to explain that they were totally non-representative of the America-loving Bush-fan German people that exist in his fantasy world.

Did I miss something? I thought O Rielly just said the Euro's didn't like Bush? He thought he just used the excuse of Bush's public displays of regilion, instead of admitting that Bush forgein policy scares them much much more...

That's the point though; he looks for some kind of excuse to say "look, they don't really dislike Bush or America per se; they just hate this one particular aspect of Bush and America".

Can't we just deport that man back to Ireland? He'd be happy there sucking Catholic cock and beating up on the homos, and we'd be happy to have him gone.

I had to stop watching O'Hannicoulterbaugh type shows. I was developing an ulcer and breaking too many things around the house.

Actually, that's more or less true. I mean why wouldn't secular nations cringe at his constant god-mongering. The fact that he's got a base of fundamentalist lunatics, and he seems to be one of them, certainly can't help.

It's only one of the problems, but of course they don't like him for that among other reasons.

I watch them with the same gruesome fascination I watch the freaks and weirdos who appear on The Howard Stern Show. It's just that Beetlejuice, Eric the Midget and Gary the Retard have more intellectual depth.

the religious part seems to be very weak reason for europeans disliking bush.
first of all i don´t think that most people here know that he´s religious.

furthermore, even if they know that he´s religious they probably don´t care that much because being religious here means something different than bein religious in the states. the vast majority of religous people here keep their beliefs to themselves. a lot of european leaders actually are religous but they don´t let it flow into their politics nor do they mention it.
joe euro probably thinks that it´s the same with american politicians and therefore doesn´t give a fuck about bush being religous.

Poland is nearly 100% Catholic, in the UK the Head of State is the head of the Church, Germany shuts down on Sunday for religious reasons and one of the largest political party is the Christian Democrates, Italy is the seat of power of Catholisism, the French are secular in government but not neccessarily by nature, and the Dutch are the most diverse people on the face on the planet ... O'Reilly actually kept a strait face when he made that claim :?: :!:

Actually, if you look at the hard numbers, Germans are fairly unreligious, especially in the new states.

I'll buy that, but they still close down on Sundays and I remember a while ago a supermarket chain wanted to open on Sundays (or later on Saturdays) and the CD cried foul ... so while the younger people themselves aren't it is clear that the bureaucracy is.

PS As if O'Reilly is going to get any hard numbers anyway! :P
