There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.
That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.
When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following...
FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.
John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.
Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
In the two years since terrorists attacked us President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but it took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.
We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less
time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high!
The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.
PASS IT ON.

To clarify, that's not just a "me being bitter" thing - Morale is at an all time low on my ship according to the officers, who are trying to do things about it (which thus far have all backfired, pissing us off more) and with things like Sea Swap and such it's pretty bad in chunks of the rest of the navy as well. From what I've read it ain't doing much better in Iraq either.

Let's see ... first he claims that Iraq is not that dangerous because the million+ residents of Detroit suffered almost as many murders in January as the 100,000 people in the combat zone. Obviously, math is not this person's strong suit. Also notice that he basically ignores casualties among Iraqis.
Second, he argues that previous wars were fought on grounds just as invalid as the ground to invade Iraq. That is nonsense on many levels; in the case of WW2 it's a joke because Germany declared war on America and was allied with Japan, in some other cases it's a joke because America was invited there, and in the case of Vietnam it's a joke because people still aren't convinced it was necessary to go to that war either.
Third, he brings up the tired old anti-Clinton attack strategy. In this case, he argues that the massive deployment of the US military in Iraq has accomplished its objectives faster than <insert Clinton-era government operation here>. An argument which totally sidesteps the whole issue of whether those objectives had anything to do with actually stopping terror or the cost in money and lives associated with those operations.
And finally, he claims that military morale is high, and proves it by using capital letters.
Yup, standard-issue Bush apologist. Not two brain cells to rub together.

It's a red herring of monumental proportions. Waco? Waco has what exactly to do with Iraq?
And tell me again that Iraq is "taken", for fuck's sake they're talking about not allowing elections in some parts of the fucking place because they're so unstable. That does NOT sound like a country that's been "taken".

Re: Just received this pro-Bush email from a former co-worke
Ah yes, there were 39 AMERICAN ACTIVE SERVICE casualties. That is to say nothing of other nations militaries involved. Nor of western contractor casualties. Or the biggest one: Iraqi casualties. In which case I get the feeling that if we translated all those across, Detroit would be under martial law with the National Guard quarantining the city till the gov't figured out just who the hell put PCP in the drinking water. There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.
That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

I'll one-up this poor deluded soul and analyze some of these facts.Learn these facts to properly debate our poor misguided friends & family before election time!!!
Detroit has a population of 951,270. 35 murders is a casualty rate of .003%. The casualty rate of American soldiers in Iraq is .039%, or 13 times higher than the murder rate in a very deadly city. There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.
That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.
German submarines sank American ships; Germany declared war on the United States; Germany attacked two American allies and invaded their sovereign territory. Three strikes; yer out. Additionally, the war against Germany and Japan was one in which America was at best at technological parity with its opponents, and won due to a larger population base and greater resources to suck up losses. Those wars were won by attrition. When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following...
FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
In a conventional war begun by North Korea deciding it wanted the territory of an American ally. Not the case in Iraq.Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.
Again, due to attacks on an American ally. Something which did not happen in the case of Iraq.John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
Yes, a quagmire which should have shown that occupying a country against the popular will of its inhabitants is generally unsuccessful. Too bad thirty years wasn't long enough for certain government-type people to learn.Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.
He went in under the UN provisions against genocide. Y'know, the same thing Saddam was accused of doing to the Kurds after they revolted due to encouragement by George the First, who then abandoned them to their fate.Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
Too bad he's also left both countries in a state where the greatest freedom is the freedom to be killed, allowed the Taliban to regrow in areas American soldiers can't watch due to being stretched too thin, apparently missed the highest echelons of the Al Qaeda network, used terror tactics and the threat of invasion to place nuclear inspectors in nations (and we all know how long Bush lets inspectors work in large empty areas before saying they're useless ).In the two years since terrorists attacked us President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
Because Reno was attempting to end a standoff without violence. But I suppose the reptile brain doesn't understand the higher functions of diplomacy, merely the fight or flight reflex. The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but it took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.
I wasn't aware it took her thirteen years to find those records. Meh. My bad. We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less
time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
Who fucking cares if Ted Kennedy took time to call the cops? He probably contacted his lawyer and PR rep first, knowing how much dirt both sides like to sling over stupid shit like this.It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took the Supreme Court to ignore the Florida votes and declare George Bush president!!!!It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!
It is? Then why are the branches having trouble meeting their re-up quotas for the first time in as long as I can recall? Soldiers that quit generally aren't happy soldiers. Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high!

This is a complete lie, too, funnily enough. Clinton was offered bin Laden by an individual who had no contact with the Sudanese government, who had a strong business interest in Sudan and was independently determined by both the CIA and FBI to be a completely unreliable agent. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing.

Well, lets see...
The first part is something we like to call a joke. I think you are a hardcore Bush apologist , based on what I've seen you post, therefore I made a joke about you sucking him off. Makes perfect sense to me.
As for the second part, it's a simple correction of something stupid you said. You said:

You should try following your own advice, tart cart. How about you prove the naysaying back home is what's causing morale to drop, as opposed to volunteer soldiers being forced to stay on the ground for months in a country that doesn't want them that we invaded for no good reason.Talon Karrde wrote:ROFL.
