I'd like to Focus on the Family all right. Someone help my focus a giant magnifying glass on that goddamn group. They're worse than the fucking church.

C'mon Mike, everyone knows Canadians are just Americans with funny accents.

Assuming the bill passes through Parliament, and the Supreme Court stamps it's, er, stamp of approval on it, will this have any effect on the Supreme Court of the United States' decision on similar matters? The only reason I'm asking is, if I recall correctly, in some cases, a judge may look to other courts which have had similar cases with similar circumstances to arrive at a decision. (No immediate examples come to mind, it's been a while since I've taken a law class.)

Some courts have used other countries' rulings as guidance, but the only example I can think of is copyright law, which is internationally enforced due to the Berne Convention anyway so it's not surprising that they would do this. Constitutional matters are hardly as portable, since we do not share the same Constitution.

Well I certainly hope our government doesn't fuck it up. If they don't get this federal hurdle passed, I can see a million headaches over the backlash. Just think of all the individual provinces and the marriages already performed, and argh.
If that asshole group has one more example to try and claim as their "victory", I'm liable to
Of course even though most political commentators have said the gay marriage issue was NOT the issue that saved George Bush, Focus on the Family arrogantly declares it was, and therefore makes them look like the reason since they were actively campaigning to get people out to the polls and vote Republican. I've never known a more loathesome group in my lifetime. Hypocrisy carries a special disgust to me, and their posing as a moral paragon makes me sick. Their "focus" on the family is to divide it if it doesn't fit THEIR profile of a family.

Eh, Canadians are Americans.

I think he might mean North Americans in the general sense.
I really don't see the point of smart-asses saying "well technically, you're all Americans because you're from the Americas. Ha ha!!!" I think most reasonable people know that the term "Americans" normally refers to people who live in the USA, not Chile.

I've been told in no uncertain terms that Mexicans are Americans, too. In Spanish.
And, from that particualr point of view, they're absolutely right. The United States is NOT America, it's a country IN America....

I hope you don't have to live with their thought; my mother gets their newsletter. I remember when they sent out this massive newsletter on why gay people are evil . . .

Spanish News always calls the US "Norte Americanos" not Americanos because in their way of thinking everything on the continent is American.

I'm sure it's just a side-effect of the G-forces.

I would see this as having the exact opposite effect as intended. I think that this would galvanize the Canadian people to set themselves apart from the American people by showing overwhelming support for the legislation. I'm sure there are Canadians who are only lukewarm to the issue of gay marriage but are fabulously pissed off at Bush and anyone aligned with him, so they would wholeheartedly support the opposite of what Bush's policy is.

I've said that same thing many times. Maybe that just makes me unreasonable.
