It's ironic that such a great step occurs a few days after the bloodiest fighting in the country, but that fact doesn't take anything away from this news. It's refreshing to see something good in Iraq for a change.

I guess since they've lived there they have a much better understanding of how much this right means to them and their fellow Iraqis still over there.

Yes, ironic though hardly surprising. The insurgents have threatened the electorate no end in recent days and weeks, hopefully it won't cause participation to drop below 50%.
