O'Reilly: "You want a piece of me?"

Post by Uraniun235 »

NEW YORK - Love him or not, viewers will have the chance to debate Bill O'Reilly on his Fox News Channel talk show, "The O'Reilly Factor," next month.

O'Reilly has announced the Great Factor Debate Contest, in which six winners will face off with the outspoken TV commentator on a topic of their choice.

"You want a piece of me?" O'Reilly said Monday. "Would you like to sit on this set right here and let me have it? Of course you would. Well, now that can happen."

He warned viewers to "be careful what you wish for."

Applicants can enter by e-mailing OReillyContest"at"foxnews.com.

The segments will air Feb. 7-8, Feb. 14-15 and Feb. 21-22.
And on the FoxNews website, the rules for the contest.

The deck is pretty heavily stacked in favor of O'Reilly. The staff gets to hand-pick the winners from their submissions, which include the topic they want to confront O'Reilly on as well as their personal views on the subject. Then O'Reilly and his staff get several days in which to carefully craft any number of soundbites to throw out and make themselves look good.

That said... fuck it, I'm entering. Nothing to lose, right? I don't expect to even get past the first selection process, but whatever.

Hah! This 'debate' will pick whoever seems weakest, and will end with O'Reilly cutting the mic on his opponent. That's my wager.

Anyone who thinks that O'Reilly will pick the people who will make his opponents look good instead of picking people who will make him look good is seven different kinds of naive.

Heh. I've seen Bill lose it more than once recently; the guest would have to be a real idiot to lose it, but that's what they'll be looking for.

I'd like to see O'Reilly versus anyone with a reasonable amount of intelligence and knowledge of the debate subject, slugging it out in a NEUTRAL FORUM, to consist of an audience with a broad spectrum of political views and good knowledge of logic, fallacies, etc. No rhetorical gimmicks allowed on either side (Cut-the-Mike O'Reilly, I'm looking at you!)

I'd predict a slaughter of O'Reilly on par with what happens when the Enterprise D meets an Imperial Strike Cruiser sans TIEs over Tatooine.

O'Reilly Vs. Darth Wong on SDnet, I predict an 'Ent-D Vs Executor Star Dreadnought with Vader and FULL TIE Complement aboard' scenario.

We're talking about a guy who thinks America won the Vietnam War and who once compared the teaching of evolution in high-school to "fascism". He didn't get where he is today by being a good debater or a rational person; he got where he is by being deceptive, provocative, and playing to a fucktard audience.

I saw O'Reilly taking questions from students from Harvard University after making a brief presentation. He pretty much kicked their asses. Contrary to popular belief, this guy is not a bad debator--he's really good, despite his often ludicrous political views. In this particular debate, he's got the deck even more stacked against the people who want to argue with him since he and his staff get to hand-pick the ones that get to go up against him.
O'Reilly Vs. Darth Wong on SDnet, I predict an 'Ent-D Vs Executor Star Dreadnought with Vader and FULL TIE Complement aboard' scenario.
A written or text debate would be much better, because a big part of O'Reilly's strength is that he can control when people get to say things (I love it when he "lets [guest] have the last word" only to wave goodbye and then say something about what they just said), and the fact that he's rhetorically powerful. Both advantages would be totally nullified in a text debate.

The last time Bill O'Really? made that mistake, Phil Donohue kicked his ass all over his little TV clubhouse for him. A most embarassing spectacle.

Donohue kicking him around isn't that impressive considering he got his butt kicked by David "60% of what you say is crap" Letterman.

What somebody should do is send in a submission and pretend to be a complete moron so their chances of being selected are larger. Then proceed to give him a righteous verbal whiplashing when they go on air.

Hey O'Reilly, if you're such a big man, why don't you go debate someone on an independant third party's terms, huh?

Because that would give a chance for the Liberal Clintonite baby killers to discredit O'Reilly and destroy America. Do you want that? Are you a terrorist?

These debates are for the O'Reilly Factor's audience. The whole purpose is to get the audience to feel as if they are participating in the show, not just watching. Moving the debates to an independent location would defeat the whole purpose, because the audience participants would no longer be on the O'Reilly Factor.

This sounds more like a way to drum up some extra interest in the show than anything else.
She did not answer, which is the damnedest way of winning an argument I know of.

I have a feeling that the people chosen will be very extreme ecentric liberals. Then of course they'll use that to represent ALL liberals and anyone that's remotely left of fundyism.

He tried that with Paul Krugman on Tim Russert's show. Krugman KOed him in the first round.

You know, I really wish Jon Stewart had beaten the unholy fucking hell out of the guy on TDS. As I recall it was a pretty watered-down argument.

I would like to see how he does against Ron Reagan Jr. though. Or Chris Matthews! That would be epic.
