The only advantage of the joystick in playing TIE fighter is that you can do a 180º dive without tiring your arm so much. The whole point of the game is to align a little reticle/cursor/crosshair thingy with the enemy, and I'm sorry to say it but that's where the mouse beats the joystick any day of the week. I tend to kill my targets at maximum range when they're just a pixel on the screen, thankyouverymuch.Hotfoot wrote:Finally, the simple fact is that space sims tend to be best controlled with a joystick. Saying you do better with a mouse than others do with a joystick is similar to hearing X-Box Halo players brag about their leet skills to a group of PC FPS vets. It just doesn't fly. You may be able to play the game, have fun doing so, and even achieve a fair amount of competance using a mouse, but a similarly skilled player with a joystick has a simple advantage in ease and precision of control.
And if I'm lashing at people it might just be because Gagme's post followed by wossname's annoyed the hell out of me. Still, that doesn't make my remarks any less truthful.
No, Samwise's "there just might be a way!" doesn't count as helpful advice. In fact that's exactly what I said in the opening post, while asking if anyone knew of any.
