Got this game at the start of the week and IMO it rocks.
While some of it's praise it's been getting is over rated (i find nothing special about the physics engine or how open ended it is) it is still one hell of a game.
Personaly i can see it getting ranked up there with Half-Life.
It is fairly open ended, as normally you just get told to "go there" or "Destroy this" and you can pick any route to get there, but the way some people had been going on about it you'd think you'd be able to do what you want, when you want. That said there are quite a few places where you can quite easily get around a potentially hard area.
The graphics are quite nice, though i haven't got them up to high end yet.
The AI is quite nice and integrates with the stealth system. You don't have to be stealthy, but in some places it helps to be using your silencd MP5 or sniping from afar so that the enemie doesn't know who's shooting them. Also it's nice to see enemies who can't see through several layers of trees and shrubs as if they've got x-ray vision
Another thing that i like is that you get two distinct groups of enemies who will fight each other. This reminds me of Half-Life with the black-ops dudes vs the aliens, except in Farcry it is on a larger scale. While in HL you might get 3 marines going up against 3 aliens in Farcry you'll get a baseload guys (with fixed emplacement weapons and vehicles) defending their base against a concentrated attack by the other side, and your stuck in the middle where both sides will try and kill you.
I'd recommend anyone who likes FPS's to get this, but be warned that you'll want a powerful com to run it in all it's glory.
