I mean, weren't they supposed to have it "fixed" by now, or was that
"code leak" just a convient ploy to push back the dev date even more?

I also suspect they are systematicaly removing the required Steam components and requirements that pissed a lot of people off.

The leaked code was a somewhat complete engine. But the game content was utterly lacking.
And the engine was no were near complete for a game to run off it. Added to the horrific problems with Steam(which was going to be an integral part of HL2), its no wonder it got delayed.
As far as I can tell, they have the bulk of the coding and such done. But there isnt much content & AI done yet. And I really wouldnt be suprised if it was delayed another 1/2 year to a year.

Maybe if Gabe would have stopped stuffing his his baby face with pocky we'd have HL2 right now. Maybe not.
Valve should learn some humility and the game community really needs to stop sucking their dicks. They're a one game wonder that relied on Hacker-Strike to keep going, and they lied about the leak being the reason for the delay. Almost half a year later they admitted that it just wasn't done in time ("schedueling goofs").
Thankfully the game is looking better than it was last year, but they might get stuck in limbo trying to make it visually competitive with upcoming titles

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Well considering that the code leak was substantial enough for it to be packaged and sold in Russia as a playable game, I'd say it was more then just the engine.ggs wrote:The leaked code was a somewhat complete engine. But the game content was utterly lacking.

In any case, I don't think we'll see HL2 before Q4 of this year. There have been other problems not related to the code leak, and they might very well hold it back for a while in order to streamline what is likely a playability issue.

I don't really think they "owe" us anything.InnocentBystander wrote:At this point, I think they owe us a playable demo. Hell; I'd take a working version of that physics demo level.

Hey, Duke Nukem 3D was a great game. The rest of them are sucky.

I think people stopped 'waiting for' Duke Nukem Forever at the 4 year mark. Now the process is called 'joking/forgetting about' Duke Nukem Forever. The Kernel wrote:Tell that to the poor bastards that have been waiting eight years for Duke Nukem Forever...Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I don't really think they "owe" us anything.InnocentBystander wrote:At this point, I think they owe us a playable demo. Wait, is that actually being 'worked on' anymore? As in not oficially cancelled? Perhaps its design doc folder has been stuffed under a cabinet, or the dev team's been reduced and narrowed down to a janitor...

I just dislike the lack of information; I'm used to seeing tons of information and press. I'd be more than happy to say, what, a year? AHH! That’s horrible; cry, complain, complain cry, etc; within a week I'll forget about it until the game goes gold, that’s how things work; people are not happy, but at least they know why they are angry. If the game wasn't f*ing done; fine, they aren't the first people to fall behind schedule. If they need to rework it for security, great; have at it, I'll be over here waiting. If it's because they want to improve source to the point where it is a marketable engine, I'm glad, they made such a great engine, I hope they reap the benefits, even if I have to wait. Would I be angry if they postponed it because of steam, yes; will I start a revolution? Nah, though I would incite a revolt over a game like Starcraft 2, but that’s a different story. Now, nothing, nada, as far as I know they might have cancelled HL2, who knows; ever been to vavlesoftware.com? If I didn't know better, I'd say HL2 doesn't actually exist; does it have an official page? As far as I know, it doesn’t.
Sure you could hackup a playable demo, but I wouldnt call that a feature complete computer game. The Kernel wrote:Well considering that the code leak was substantial enough for it to be packaged and sold in Russia as a playable game, I'd say it was more then just the engine.

Supposedly, the "demo" was quite long (I heard eight Halo-sized levels) and was almost entirely feature complete (Alpha-Beta state). This is not a surprise as HL2 must have been close to Beta around E3 2003 as it was scheduled for release in the Fall. Although the leaked copy may not bear much resemblence game balance wise to the final version, I think it certainly was a substantial piece of game.ggs wrote:Sure you could hackup a playable demo, but I wouldnt call that a feature complete computer game. The Kernel wrote:Well considering that the code leak was substantial enough for it to be packaged and sold in Russia as a playable game, I'd say it was more then just the engine.

I'm just wondering if Valve will actually beat iD Software on this one. I can wait for the game at any rate, don't even have Windows on my computer at the moment and I don't have time to reinstall it now...
