Aren't the XP processors now relegated to budget processor status that are supposed to compete with celerys?

Then again, it's still faster than my PII-450

I think the "regular" 64s are for the medium-high end market, and the FX is for the high-end market.

I like the 2400 XP processor. Then again, I'm a geek and I like having a chip that I can get to run rock-stable at over 100 MHz beyond its base clock rate, so that it runs as quickly as an Athlon XP 2700 or 2800 CPU, all on air cooling.

What should I do about cooling then? I'm not going to overclock anything, but the cooling system would be nice to add in.

Well what's your current setup? If you don't already have them, you probably ought to consider a couple of extra case fans and an upgrade of what's on the CPU.

If you get the retail kit (you'd be a fucking moron NOT to get a retail chip since its like $4 more than OEM, and you get 3 years of warranty and a free heatsink) then the stock heatsink is more than enough. Right now my 2800+ is sitting at 38C idle, and tops out at around 45C full load.

I got the thing at the computer store down the street from me. It came with a massive heatsink fan. Plus I have an extra fan on the front of the case right now.

The audio crew at a Greek Festival I just volunteered at gave me a Pentium @ 120MHz and a Pentium 2 @ 266 MHz for free. I think I'll turn the 266 into an SQL server and the 120 into a DOS game box.

When we tore apart the old the old comps at my last command we got loads of goodies, from SPAC-10s to multi-mainboard daughter cards, to whole server racks and miles of wiring
