Hard drive problems

Post by Hobot »

I'm pretty sure my harddrive is fucked up. I have two hard drives, a Western Digital Raptor (36 gigs) SATA drive and a Maxtor 80 gig IDE drive (which is being listed as a SCSI...possibly because I have it hooked up to the RAID array). The Raptor is my primary drive and works fine, but lately I've noticed problems with the Maxtor.

Usually I just use it to store media files, anime and the like. I downloaded a movie the other day and tried opening it but the audio was fucked. I thought it was odd because the version I downloaded had the most sources and was rated highly. I had also recently downloaded the SWG trial and stored it on that drive. When I tried to install it I got this error:

"An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by a bad installation media or corrupt installed file."

I hit retry, same error, I hit abort,

"Corrupt installation file!"

Well I was pissed because it's a 2 gig file and took awhile to download. I kind of got worried too so I tried opening the few other archived installion files I kept on that disk and nearly every one of them gave me the same error. I schedueled a CHKDSK for the next restart but I never saw the results of it (I was out at the time and when I got back it was at the login screen).

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong, if I can fix it, and if my other videos will be affected by the errors?
